A memorial service for Sonny DeSersa will be held at 2pm Friday, March 5th 2016 at the Worland Community Center in Worland, Wyoming.

Selmer Freddie (Sonny) DeSersa died on Feb. 27th, 2016 at his home in Worland, Wyoming, due to a lengthy illness.

He was born Nov. 8th 1949 to Leo and Selma DeSersa in Rapid City South Dakota.

The third out of ten children, he spent his childhood years growing up in Lusk, Wyoming attending the Niobrara County School systems. He enjoyed playing football and wrestling. Graduating in 1969.

After graduation he served in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam era, on a aircraft carrier, the USS Hancock.

After his time serving his country, he was married to Juanita Hamer from Harrison, Nebraska. To this union two were born, Steve and Tracy.

He later remarried and Sonny and Marcy DeSersa had three children, Bill, Becky and Sheila. Among other jobs, he worked as an activities director in a nursing home in South Dakota and he worked at the Children's Home in Casper. In his later years he returned to Lusk and was a painter and in a landscaping business. He spent his last years in Worland to be closer to his family.

One of his passions was family history. He and a sister traveled to the Rosebud reservation in South Dakota. There he found more information on Leo DeSersa and his family. He and his sister both became members of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe on that trip.

Proceeding him in death were his parents Leo DeSersa and Selma Rogina, stepfather, Ed Rogina, sister Delores Felzein and brother Gene Rogina. Along with several nieces and nephews.

Surviving him are his children, Steve, Tracy, Becky, Bill and Sheila, and his sisters, Nina Achenbach of Sheridan, Wyoming, Arlene Smith and Evie Gerber of Worland, Wyoming, Kathy Brown of Big Springs, Nebraska, Liz Ogle of Brush Colorado, Doris Johnson of Manville, Wyoming and Carrie Kraft of Lusk, Wyoming. Twelve grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
