Dorothy Ellen (Lipps) Lofing

Dorothy Ellen (Lipps) Lofing, 82, longtime Worland resident, passed away on April 15, 2016 in Billings, Montana.


Dorothy was born November 26, 1933 in Wheatland, Wyoming to John and Anna Marie (Kammerzell) Lipps. She graduated from Wheatland High School in 1951. She married Robert L. Lofing in August of 1952. In 1954, they moved to Worland where they continued farming. They had five children and divorced in 1975. Dorothy waitressed for 13 years at Ram’s Horn Café, the Country Club, and Washakie Grill and retired after working 19 years for Crown Cork and Seal Company.


Dorothy enjoyed cooking, especially the delicious German recipes her mother taught her, and collecting cookbooks from all over the United States. She also enjoyed attending polka dances with her family. She took pleasure in tending to her flower garden, growing a vegetable garden, and canning fruits and vegetables. Her greatest joy came from sharing the meals she cooked and her canned goods with her family and friends.


Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents John and Anna Marie; sisters Wilma Weber, Ruby Roberts, Frieda Glanz, Lydia Dixon, and Hilda Lipps; and brothers Johnny Lipps and Raymond Lipps.


She is survived by sons Bob (Rhonda) Lofing of Grand Junction, CO, and Mike (Carole) Lofing of Evergreen, CO; daughters Christi (Sam) McClure of Worland, WY, Lisa Monroney of Worland, WY, and Karen (Tim) Surat of Worland, WY; brothers Donald Lipps of Cody, WY, and Ray (Delores) Lipps of Casper, WY; sister Irene Kiser of Worland, WY; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.


Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 10:00 am at Grace Lutheran Church in Worland with Pastor Tim Trippel officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens.
