Alex Roy Zdurne

Alex Zdurne, 86 year old, Thermopolis resident, passed away on September 23, 2007 at Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation.

Alex was born on September 10, 1921 in Lansing, MI to Andrew and Mary (Preppelica) Zdurne. He grew up on the family farm and helped to grow many fruits and vegetables which were shipped to the city market to be sold.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy from January 12, 1942 through November 5, 1945. He was stationed on the USS Nashville. During his service he was awarded the Bronze Star. He also had earned a Purple Heart, but out of concern for his parents, refused to accept it. He did not want his folks to worry about his welfare.

After his return from the service he met and married Beverly Britton on September 1, 1946. They continued to help with the family farm, because he couldn’t farm or garden in the winter. Alex also went to work for Renigar and later Prince Construction Companies.

He loved to be outdoors. He would raise a huge garden each year and loved to share the bounty with friends and neighbors and relatives. It wasn’t uncommon to see him coming with a basket overflowing with produce. Even the deer, gophers and rabbits knew there would be something in his garden for them, too. In his spare time Alex could be found golfing or fishing. He never met a stranger and would do anything to help out his neighbors. Alex was a life member of the VFW.

Alex retired in 1986 due to failing health. He and Beverly moved to Wyoming on May of 2001 to be near his daughter.

Alex was preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Betty and Pauline.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly of Thermopolis; two daughters: Linda (Bill) Vickers of Savannah, GA, Alexa (Vince) Hanson of Thermopolis, WY; one brother, Andy (Ada) Zdurne of East Lansing, MI; one sister, Mary Hunt of Poway, CA; three grandchildren: Jon (Marti) Hanson, Corey (Kari) Vickers, and Brent (Amy) Vickers; three great-granddaughters: Kaylee, Amaih, and Delaney and two great-grandsons: Rhett and Zachary.
