Alicia Mercedes Garay

With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Alicia Mercedes Garay, who unexpectedly left this world on July 18, 2026, just four days before her 25th birthday. Alicia was born on July 22, 2001, in Worland, Wyoming, to her loving parents, Juan Carlos Garay and Stephanie Garay. From the very beginning, Alicia brought light, laughter, and love into the lives of everyone around her. She had a heart of gold, a beautiful smile that could brighten any room, and a personality that people were naturally drawn to. Whether she had known someone for years or had just met them, Alicia had a way of making everyone feel welcome. She never met a stranger—only friends she hadn’t made yet. Above all else, Alicia was a devoted mother. Her precious daughter, Saira Garay, was the center of her world and the greatest blessing of her life. Everything Alicia did was for Saira, and there was never a doubt how deeply she loved her little girl. She often told Saira, “I love you to the moon and back,” words that will forever echo in the hearts of those who witnessed their incredible bond. Alicia graduated from Riverside High School in Basin, Wyoming, in 2020, where she participated in volleyball, Student Council, FBLA, and even spent a year in drama. She loved being involved, making friends, and creating memories that would last a lifetime. After high school, Alicia attended college in Casper before pursuing the career she had always dreamed of. She earned her cosmetology license in 2025 and proudly completed barber school, graduating in June 2026. She was excited to begin this new chapter and looked forward to helping people feel beautiful and confident while building a future she was proud of. Family meant everything to Alicia. She is survived by her cherished daughter, Saira Garay; her parents, Juan Carlos Garay and Stephanie Garay; her siblings, Nathaniel (Alyssa), Fabian, and Alexis (Avery); her beloved niece, Sophia; and her godson, Izaya. She is also survived by her grandparents, Deseree Leon of Worland , Robert Velasquez of Worland and Maria Garay of Greybull; her great-grandmother, Juana Garay of Greybull; her aunts and uncles, Robert Velasquez, Johnny (Misty) Velasquez, Richard (Juliana) Velasquez, Julio Garay, Cynthia Garay, José Garay, Manuel (Ivorey) Garay, and Maria (Luis) Morales; along with many cousins, extended family members, and countless friends who became family. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Juan Garay; her great-grandfather, Julio Garay; her cousin, AJ Garay; her uncle, Yuyo Garay; and many beloved grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Alicia shared a special bond with all of her cousins. She loved spending time with them and would often say, “I’m going to go hang out with the boys.” She especially treasured her relationship with her cousin Angel. Alicia also had two lifelong best friends, Kelby Davila and Karie Adams, who were far more than friends—they were sisters by choice. Together they shared countless memories, laughter, adventures, and an unbreakable bond. Anyone who knew Alicia knew she was the life of the party. She was funny, fearless, and full of personality. She loved to laugh, loved to make others laugh, and could always be counted on to bring energy wherever she went. Her love was genuine, her hugs were heartfelt, and her kindness left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Alicia was incredibly proud of her American and Mexican heritage. She embraced both cultures with pride and loved sharing that part of who she was with those around her. In honor of Alicia’s beautiful spirit and the pride she carried in her family and culture, the family kindly invites everyone attending her services to wear red, white, green, or colors representing her American and Mexican roots as a tribute to the life she lived so passionately. A viewing will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at the Greybull Recreation Center (527 1st Ave South) from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A Mass will immediately follow from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., burial will follow at the Greybull Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather afterward for a luncheon back at the community center to continue celebrating Alicia’s life and the memories she leaves behind. Everyone is welcome to attend, we know that she was loved by the world. Although Alicia’s time on earth was far too short, the love she gave so freely, the laughter she shared so generously, and the countless lives she touched will never fade. Her legacy lives on in Saira, in her family, in her friends, and in every heart that was blessed to know her. Until we meet again, sweet Alicia, we will love you always and forever… to the moon and back.
