Aurora Garcia Martinez

Jul 22, 1930 — Jun 12, 2021

Obituary Aurora Garcia Martinez July 22, 1930 – June 12, 2021 Aurora Garcia Martinez, 90, passed away peacefully at her home in Worland on June 12, 2021. Aurora was born on July 22, 1930 in Santa Rita, Texas to Cayetano and Sara (Valderas) Garcia. She married Ramon E. Martinez on November 21, 1953 in Robstown, Texas. The couple made their home in Texas where, Maria, Minerva and Magdalena were born. The little family then moved to Worland in 1957, where Aurora was sure the snow would be the end of her if they stayed. But stay they did, bringing Moses, Elias, Arlene, Melba and Adam into the family. She ran a tight ship in their two-bedroom home, raising these eight children. Aurora was the enforcer, being quick to discipline and to forgive. Ramon, on the other hand, would discipline by helping his children gain appreciation for the bible as he would read to them and with them for a very long time. The children preferred Mom's quicker approach. Aurora went to work at the Washakie Hotel, first as a dishwasher and later as a housekeeper. She also cleaned houses for some of the families in Worland. She taught her children to have a good work ethic, by working beside them in the beet fields in Emblem, hoeing weeds. She was the glue that kept the family together. All eight of her children have remained in Worland and are an integral part of the community. She loved cooking! If you stopped by to say hello, you were fed. She made each of her children a special blanket and tried to make as many as she could for her grandchildren. She enjoyed embroidery and flowers of all kinds. Later in life, she learned that travel, especially flying was an experience she longed for. Whenever any of her children went on a vacation, Grandma was always included. She also enjoyed shopping and collecting many types of jewelry. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ramon; brothers: Cesario, Marcos, Ruben, Francisco, and Robert; sister: Carolina Lopez and Lydia Garcia. She is survived by her children Maria, Minerva Martinez, Magdalena (Manuel) Martinez, Moses (Jennifer) Martinez, Elias (Guylah) Martinez, Arlene (Kevin) Moser, Melba Moser, Adam (Nikki) Martinez. Survivors also include 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one sister, Idolina (Gavino) Leyva. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Friday, June 18, 2021, at Monte Calvario Spanish Assembly of God Church. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow at the Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com.
