Obituary
Betty Joan Thompson
July 7, 1927 – August 22, 2021
Betty Joan Thompson, 94, passed away on August 22, 2021 at her home in Worland, Wyoming.
Betty was born on July 7, 1927 in Wabash, Indiana to Oscar Edward and Myrtle Opal (Luke) Beal. Her parents divorced in her early childhood. Her mother did childcare to take care of her and her siblings. Betty attended school in Wabash until she decided it was time for her to make her own way in life. She left home and hitchhiked to Wyoming. She became a strong and independent woman.
Her first marriage to Don Townsend ended in divorce. She later met and married Jacob Leon Thompson. The couple adopted three children, two sons, Lee Anthony and Jakie Keith and a daughter, Peggy Eileen. While the children were young, Betty sold Avon to make a little extra spending money. She would also plant a big garden to put up produce for the winter. In later years, she enjoyed being a "Grandma" at South Side Elementary School.
Betty was a member of Grace Chapel Community Church. She was active in the Women of the Church of God, serving as president for a time. She also helped with Bible Study and VBS whenever she could. Her other interests included jigsaw puzzles, crocheting and reading. Some of her favorite memories were riding horses up to Lake Solitude and in the Big Horns with her husband. They also went fishing and hunting every year.
She was strong-minded and sometimes outspoken and misunderstood, but she always meant well and had a very kind heart. At a young age, she learned to be tough, but did her best to live a good Christian life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Albert and Irvan; sisters, Vivian and Evelyn and daughter, Peggy Eileen Thompson.
Survivors include her sons, Lee Anthony "Tony" Thompson of Galloway, Ohio, Jakie Keith Thompson of Worland; grandchildren, Jacob Thompson, Nicole (Randy) Mortell, Miranda Reynolds, Robert Thompson, Kelsi Thompson, Leon Davenport, Kirtis Davenport, John (Wendy) Sinske; great-grandchildren, Scotty, Alaina, Jacob, Ari, Jace and Ivy.
