Obituary

Bruce Warren Lohman

February 2, 1955- January 11, 2026

Bruce Lohman passed away unexpectedly in Billings, Montana, on January 11, 2026, at the age of 70.

He was born in Saint Louis, Missouri, on February 2, 1955, to Robert and Joan (Wedbush) Lohman.

Bruce grew up in Sonora, California, and graduated from Sonora Union High School in 1973. He was drawn to firefighting at an early age. After becoming a seasonal firefighter for CDF (now called CalFire) when he was just 17, he decided that this was the career for him. Bruce was a firefighter for the state of California his entire adult life, eventually retiring as a well-respected Captain.

He was personally involved in saving countless lives, countless properties, and even stands of heritage old growth redwood trees. He fought fires from fire engines, as an inmate crew captain, and even from helicopters and planes.

Bruce was a master storyteller and could somehow turn any story he was telling you into the most interesting, hilarious thing you've ever heard.

He loved history and ghost towns and anything having to do with World War II. He loved deserts and oceans and trees and animals. He loved making people laugh. And he loved his small tribe of friends and family members.

But firefighting and being a lifelong first responder takes a toll on a person. After Bruce retired, he suffered from strong bouts of PTSD. It was this, along with the encouragement of his family and friends, that drove him to focus more on his relationship with God than he ever had before. The closer he got to Jesus, the more his PTSD diminished until he was absolutely free of it.

His life was one of victory against all odds, stubborn bravery in the face of severe emotional/physical peril, and the sheer beauty of the raw material his unique soul was made out of. This world has lost a good one.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, his sons Derek and Robert Lohman, and his wife, Faith (Blackstock) Lohman.

He is survived by his daughter Cassandra Andersen, step-children Daniel and Justin Cable, and his sisters Jodi Sailors and Yvonne Duval. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, as well as the members of Faith's family that he became very close to over the years.

Bruce will be buried in Ohio so as to be near his daughter.

In lieu of a funeral, the family is asking that condolences and/or memories of Bruce be posted on the Bryant Funeral Home Facebook page or at www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com. Please comment on either of these pages with any stories or memories you have of Bruce.
