Carol Aagard Powers

Carol Davidson Powers, 67, died on September 25, 2026 in the Cody Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Basin, Wyoming on July 14, 1959 to Dennis William and Beatrice (Aagard) Davidson.

Carol grew up in a family of eleven children in Burlington, Wyoming. Growing up in a home with eight brothers, Carol prided herself on being as tough as they were and loved to arm wrestle with them to prove it. She was fun-loving and enjoyed a good water fight or playing mischievous tricks on people. She started riding horses as a young girl and continued that love throughout her life. Some of her best times were with her two oldest granddaughters having them in the saddle on their family ranch in Tensleep, Wyoming. She has also loved reading, you could always find a book or two in her car “just in case” she was parked and had a few minutes when she was out running errands.

After high school, Carol attended college at Northwest Community College in Powell and then transferred to BYU in Provo, Utah. She took a break in her studies after meeting her future husband, Mark Edward Powers from Greybull, Wyoming. Mark was an airplane pilot who would fly a small plane to Burlington, land in a pasture on the Davidson place, pick up Carol and go for an airplane ride which she loved. The two married December 17, 1981 in Burlington, Wyoming and became the parents of 3 children, Hanna, Joel and Alanna.

Carol was widowed in 1992 a few months after their daughter Alanna’s birth; that’s when she enrolled in the University of Wyoming in Laramie to receive her teaching degree. Carol taught elementary school for twenty-five years in Burlington. She loved her students, and they loved her. She connected with each child in a personal way. All ages of students gathered before school to see her. As they got older and went into middle and high school, she supported them in their activities through graduation. She started Bingo for Books --now a great reading tradition. She started popping popcorn on Fridays during lunch and invited the students to come in for some popcorn and a visit with Mrs. Powers. She had high expectations and worked really hard to help every child succeed.

For many years after school each day, Carol, who was always eager to get outside, would go and help her brother, Pete Davidson feed his cattle.

She also loved growing beautiful flowers in her yard and grew a large garden each year and enjoyed sharing its bounty.

Carol had a favorite motto she tried to live by: “I try to be nice to everyone I meet because you never know what they are going through.”

She put this motto into action by reaching out and giving loving service to people in her Burlington community and in her family. She was instrumental in starting the Annual Appreciation dinner for the local volunteer EMTS and firemen. She baked beautiful loaves of bread that she would take around to people that she thought needed a little extra love and support or would take dinner in if a meal was needed. For many years, Carol remembered a lonely man in her community, bringing him meals and making sure he was not forgotten. Every Christmas, she brought him gifts and food to brighten his holiday. It was simply who Carol was—kind, thoughtful, and always looking for someone she could help.

Before her dad moved into the New Horizon Care Center in Lovell, Carol would take him meals frequently and clean his house. Then when her mom’s health began to fail, Carol began taking her breakfast every day and often food at lunch or dinner and then would go play games with her mother every evening to give her some company.

If someone were to describe Carol, they would often say how kind, supportive and very selfless she was. When out of town family came to visit, she always cooked them big breakfasts and dinners and made them feel so welcome and loved. Her three granddaughters and her children were made to feel like they were her whole world.

Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mark Edward Powers; parents, Dennis William and Beatrice (Aagard) Davidson and brother, Mark Davidson.

She is survived by her children: Hanna Powers (Kellan Seaton) of Burlington; Joel Powers of Burlington and Alanna (Parker) Lyman of Tensleep, Wyoming; granddaughters: Charlee, Kylee, and Lincoln; siblings: Dennis (Barbara) Davidson of Burlington; Rebecca Kline of Pleasant View, Utah, Debby (James) Christenson of Visalia, California, Jared (Nancy) Davidson of American Fork, Utah, Tom (Patty) Davidson of Forsyth, Montana, Anne (Mark) Boynton of Burlington, John (Jeana) Davidson of Burlington, Mathew (Margaret) Davidson of Burlington, and Chris (Esther) Davidson of Burlington.
