Charlene Horsley

Charlene Horsley, 97, died in Lander, Wyoming on August 6, 2026.

Charlene was born on March 26, 1929 in Price Utah, the daughter of Charles H. and Zina Christensen Madsen. She attended Price Schools grades one through twelve, graduating in 1947 as co-valedictorian or Carbon County High School. She attended Brigham Young University from 1947-1949 where she was employed as a secretary in the Athletic Department. She then worked for a year in the Purchasing Department of Geneva Steele in Orem. She served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in what was then called the Eastern Canadian Mission with headquarters in Toronto, Ontario. Following her mission she again worked for the BYU Athletic Department.

On August 23, 1954 she married Edward C. Horsley of Lovell, Wyoming, in the Salt Lake Temple. She continued to work as a secretary in Denver Colorado, financially assisting her husband’s pursuit of a medical degree. The couple made their home in Worland, Wyoming where he practiced family medicine and surgery for 31 years. They had three children, Lesli, David W. and Lance S., the first two who preceded them in death.

Charlene served in various callings in her Church including Director of the Worland Stake Family History Center, which was her lifelong passion.

In late 1992 she joined her husband in retiring to missionary service, serving in London, England, Sydney, Australia, Lagos, Nigeria, and Accra, Ghana in West Africa. During this period the Horsley’s began to spend their winters in St. George, Utah. When Edward died in late 2015, Charlene continued to live there year-round.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ed; children: Leslie and David; sisters: Myrtle, Mabel, Lora, Mildred, Josephine and Kay.

Survivors include her son, Lance; brothers: Charles and Clifford of Tallahassee, Florida, Stanford of Gilbert, Arizona, Robert of Washington D.C; sisters: Mary (Chandler) of Reno, Nevada, Carolyn (Chamberlain) of Bountiful, Utah; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her dear friend, Cynthia Price of St. George, Utah.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, August 14, 2026 in the Lovell, Wyoming Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your charity of choice. Online condolences may be made at www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com.
