Obituary

Chester Paul Ogaard, Jr.

June 19, 1929 – June 16, 2024

Chester Paul Ogaard, Jr., 94, passed away at the Washakie Medical Center on June 16, 2024. Paul was born on June 19, 1929, in Cokato, Minnesota, the second child born to Chester Paul, Sr. and Edna Florence (Juntilla) Ogaard.

Paul grew up in Minnesota and Wisconsin, graduating from Lincoln High School in Manitowoc, Wisconsin in 1947. He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force as an Aircraft instrument Repairman for over 20 years. Even upon his retirement, he continued to serve in the same line of work for the United States Military.

He met Cleo Ann Montanye and the couple were wed on December 5, 1953 on the Fairchild Air Force Base in Fairchild, Washington. To this union was born a son, Donald. The family lived wherever the service sent them, including New Hampshire, Massachusetts, California, Utah and even resided in England for a time. When he wasn't working, Paul found joy in golfing and bowling. Cleo enjoyed these things as well and stayed by his side when she could. He excelled in both sports, having a wall of trophies to attest to his accomplishments. Pinochle was another game he engaged in with fellow Air Force Base friends.

Paul was very good at what he did and embraced the technology age of today because of his expertise in electronics. He and Donald built two computers from scratch, of which Paul was quite proud. He took great joy in learning the stock market and made pretty good predictions for being a self-taught investor. He was stubborn, good-natured, generous, caring and just a bit ornery. His love for his country was only surpassed by the love of his family. He loved taking his great-grandchildren to see old planes. He thought it was humorous to have them tell him the planes were broken and couldn't Papa fix them?

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Peter; sisters: Lois Franz, Marlys Borchardt and Sharon Schroder. Survivors include his wife of nearly 70 years, Cleo; son, Donald (Robyn) Ogaard; grandchildren, Courtney (Josh) Fraley of Laramie, Wyoming and Keith (Carrie) Ogaard of Sheridan, Wyoming; great-grandchildren: Tristan, Charlotte, Isabelle and Madeline Fraley; Kaydence Schutt, Cole and Connor Ogaard.
