Obituary

Chris Robert Schatz Jr.

June 1, 1945 – March 31, 2026

Chris Robert Schatz left this world on March 31, 2026 doing what he loved best, driving truck.

Chris was born in Cody, Wyoming on June 1, 1945 to Christ Robert Sr. and Lois M (Gifford) Schatz. He graduated from high school in Lovell, Wyoming. Following graduation, Chris worked as a trucker and farmer, after which he joined the military, proudly serving in the National Guard. After an honorable discharge, Chris started his career as an Owner/Operator Truck Driver.

Chris had many loves, including snowmobiling, riding side-by-sides, camping in the mountains, and just about anything outdoors. He had a special bond with his horse, Spruce, and always enjoyed helping his brother Gene move cows. He also loved hitting the road with his wife, Lynda, sometimes driving up to 1,200 miles in a single day. Some might jokingly say that Chris loved his family, but he loved trucking. The truth is, nothing meant more to him than his family: his wife, his sons, his daughter, and grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Being a hard worker was a defining part of Chris's life. Even after retirement, it wasn't long before he found his way back behind the wheel. He often said, "I get to work this week!" not because he had to, but because he truly loved it. Chris took pride in every part of the job; driving, servicing, maintaining, and caring for the rigs. Whether working on his own, helping friends, or in his role with Washakie County Road and Bridge or driver training and hauling coal for GK Construction. Over the years, he was honored multiple times as the Wyoming Trucking Association's Trucker of the Year and also served as President of the organization. In June of 2025, he was recognized by the American Historical Truck Association for over 50 years of driving—an honor he was incredibly proud of.

Chris will be remembered as a very sweet, happy man who didn't know a stranger. He will truly be missed by many.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Arthur Schatz, and a sister, Grace Lowry.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lynda, of Worland, Wyoming; sons, Rob Schatz of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Troy (Tana) Schatz of Cody, Wyoming and Michael (Wendy) Schatz of Phoenix, Arizona; his daughter, Tammy (Ken) Strebel of Plain City, Utah; adopted daughters, Stevie Lee of Riverton, Wyoming and Tara Revolinski May of Powell, Wyoming and his brother, Gene Schatz, of Lovell Wyoming. Grandchildren Jen, Mandy, Sam, Joshua and Shelby. And great grandchildren Kayla, Korbin, Avery, Eli, Lily and Quentin.

A viewing will take place at CrossPoint Baptist Church in Worland, Wyoming at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 11, 2026, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. with Dr Fred Smith officiating. Memorial donations may be made to The Wyoming Trucking Association to help upcoming drivers with their licensing. Please send checks to PO Box 524 Worland, Wyoming 82401.
