Christopher Anthony Highsmith

Christopher Anthony Highsmith born on March 14, 1955 in Willacoochee, Georgia to Edsel and Olive Latrell White Highsmith died at his home in Thermopolis on August 28, 2026. He fought a short battle with cancer and died with his significant other, Martha, their beloved yorkie, Dusty and niece, Lisa by his side. 

Chris was an avid lover of NASCAR, old country music and being outdoors. He would watch any race he could find or just listen on the radio if he was working. He was very proud of his CD and digital music collection. Chris loved to sing his great-great niece to sleep and make her giggle. 

Chris spent his years working as a handyman, plumber, and after retirement, lawn care. He loved helping his neighbors. Many of his neighbors became clients of his lawn care service. The best part was when he would take a break to sit on the porch and chat. Those clients became friends who loved Chris. 

Chris was a small-town boy that grew up the oldest of three siblings. His work took him all over the country. He travelled to Germany with the Army. He loved watching the sunrise in Arizona. He made friends in Utah, Texas, Georgia and finally in Wyoming where he passed away at 71 years old.

Chris met Martha 14 years ago in Thermopolis, Wy. They raised their spunky Yorkie, Dusty for the last 5 years. Chris calls her the love of his life. His wish was to stay in their home to enjoy his last few weeks by their side. 

Chris is survived by his significant other, Martha Katzenberger; son, Tony (Lauren) Highsmith, grandchildren: Matthew(Alex), Dylan and Mackenzie Highsmith all of Arab, Alabama; niece, Deanna (Jason) and their children, Sammy and Sara Beth Barham of Valdosta, Georgia; son, Scotty Highsmith of Kentucky; nephews: Greg, Thomas, and Mark Bennett all of Georgia; great-nephew, Jeffrey Bennett of Pearson, Georgia; great-nieces, Christine (Matt) Nitchman of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Lisa (Cade) and their daughter, Addie of Thermopolis, Wyoming, and step-daughter, Camishia (Rick) Buckley of Scottsbluff, Nebraska. 

Chris is preceded in death by his mother and father, his younger brother Remer Highsmith, and his younger sister Christine Derinne White. No formal services are planned at this time. Online condolences may be made at www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com.
