Obituary

Doris Lynne Scalia

October 18, 1946- December 15, 2024

Doris Lynne Scalia, 78 passed away on December 15, 2024 in Worland, Wyoming surrounded by her family.

Doris was born on October 18, 1946, to Herbert Jacob Anderson and Doris Marie (Simonson) on Staten Island, New York. She grew up on Staten Island and graduated from Port Richmond High School, where she first developed the strong work ethic and compassionate heart that would define her life.

After graduating, Doris worked as a bank teller in New York City, where she met a neighbor and fellow Staten Islander, James Edgar Scalia. The two quickly fell in love, and on October 23, 1966, they were married. Doris and Jimmy's life together was filled with adventure, moving to new places as he served in the Air Force, living in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Alaska, and eventually returning to New York. In 1975, they settled in Worland, Wyoming, where Doris would call home for the remainder of her days.

In Worland, Doris and Jimmy operated a cleaning business, and Doris wore many hats—working as a babysitter, a paraeducator, an EMT, and a devoted housewife. She was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she volunteered her time for a variety of church activities, from helping with funeral dinners to teaching religious education through the CCD program. Doris's devotion to her faith was unwavering, and she supported her husband's work with the Knights of Columbus and CYO, always by his side with a smile and a helping hand.

A woman of many talents, Doris loved to knit and crochet, creating beautiful pieces for friends and family alike. She had an open door and an open heart, enjoying nothing more than entertaining loved ones. Doris was known for keeping everyone in line with her gentle yet firm approach, and she took great joy in watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. Her love for family was boundless, and she gave generously of her time and love to all those fortunate enough to know her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jimmy; sister, Janette Anderson and an infant baby boy.

She is survived by her daughter, Doris Kern of Worland; son, James (Jennifer) Scalia of Graford, Texas; sisters, Karen (Dennis) Krus of Tracy's Landing, Maryland and Dale Hahn of Portland, Maine; grandchildren, Jordan (Katelyn) Kern, Morgan Kern, Nathan Kern (Taysha) Colin Scalia, Ian (Rebecca) Scalia, Domonic (Maria) Rangel, Abigail Rangel and Haley Rangel; great-grandchildren, Tinley, Sadie, Rhyett, Macyn, Wright, Elyzah, Edyn, Sameline, Zeppelin, Christoper, Eva, Dahlia and one on the way. (AND THAT'S MY STORY).
