Dorothy G. Stratmann

d. May 7, 2019

Obituary Dorothy G. Stratmann December 14, 1930 – May 7, 2019 Dorothy G. Stratmann went to be with her precious Jesus on May 7, 2019 in Worland, WY. She was surrounded by her family that held her hand until she was in His arms. Dorothy was born to Edward and Helen (Schmoekel) Kohls of Ellsworth, Kansas on 12/14/1930. She joined her brother Art and sister Aldeen and later they welcomed little brother, John, to the family. As youngsters Dorothy recalled the tag games they played and racing her siblings down the long country lane to the farm house. "We ran a lot and I was good at it". Dorothy graduated high school in Ellsworth and went on to nurses training at St. Luke's in Kansas City, MO, where she made friendships that lasted a lifetime. Being a nurse was a very important part of Dorothy's life. In October of 1953 Dorothy met Bruce Stratmann, the love of her life; he was from the neighboring community of Holyrood. Soon after they met as they were driving down the road he tossed a ring to her saying "do you want that?" Surprisingly she still said YES! They were married on July 3, 1954. They made their home in Lyons, Kansas and later moved to Russellwhere they started their family. In the summer of 1960 Bruce packed up his bride and small children and moved west to Wyomingtheir families thought they were moving to the Wild West. Dorothy thought of turning around as they wound through the narrow roads of Wind River Canyon-but she did not. They established their Wyoming roots in Thermopolis. She continued her nursing career in Thermopolis working at Hot Springs Memorial Hospital and later at Gottsche Rehab Center where she latched onto the next blessing of our family, Audrey. Audrey began to stay with "Mom and Dad" during the week. As her health problems persisted she was placed in another foster home where she did not thrive. She returned to "Mom and Dad" and has been with them since and thrived with the love that was given to her. Audrey blesses our family beyond any measure. Dorothy was a caring mother and grandmother, loyal friend and a great cook and most of all a devoted servant of Jesus. She had a yard full of beautiful flowers and a great garden. Her grandchildren were never without fresh homemade bread and full stomachs-though she was not a fan of muddy boys!! She will be missed by all. Survivors include her husband Bruce of Worland; one sister Aldeen of Denver Co; Children: Debbie (Dan) Robertson of Worland, Brad (Diane) Stratmann of Indianapolis, IN, Brenda (John) Ahlbrandt of Casper, WY, and Audrey Shoyo of Worland; grandchildren: Christy (David) Swing, Josh (Mindy) Robertson, Joe (Val) Robertson, Doug Robertson, Matt (Jackie) Robertson, Brittany Stratmann, Stephanie (Matt) Choka, Jonathan (Cori) Koehler and Jason (Brandi) Koehler and 18 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:30 P.M., Saturday, May 11, 2019 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be at 6:00 P.M., Friday evening, May 10 at the Bryant Funeral Home Chapel and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorial donations may be made to the Worland Senior Center c/o PO Box 524, Worland, WY 82401.
