Dorthy Janet Anderson, 97 year old Worland resident was freed from the cares of this world, as she passed away on July 4, 2012 at the Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Dorthy was born on November 16, 1914 in Kirksville, Missouri, the 4th of 8 children born to Francis M. and Jennie May (Murphy) Ownbey. The family moved to Hulett, Wyoming in 1918, where Dorthy received her early education graduating from Hulett High School. She continued her higher education at the University of Wyoming, graduating in 1937 with a Bachelor of Science in Botany.

She married E.G. "Bud" Anderson on December 31, 1937 in Laramie, Wyoming. They moved to Torrington in 1940, where they made their home and raised their eight children. After Mr. Anderson retired from his job with the city of Torrington, the couple returned to Laramie until 1995. It was in this year that they relocated to Worland.

Throughout her life her focus was on enjoying and providing for and her family. She imparted wisdom to her children and encouraged them to explore their surroundings, find solutions to problems, and be creative in artistry and other skills. She encouraged her children in every facet of life to become what God created them to be. She devoted her life to family, meeting each individual's needs to the best of her ability. She was especially attentive to her younger daughter Katherine. In her words, "We were blessed with eight children of whom I'm very proud, especially Katherine, who gave our whole family a better outlook on life."

Dorthy had many hobbies aside from spending time with her family. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and embroidery. She also did many arts and craft with her children and particularly enjoyed going on picnics and hikes with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bud on May 14, 1998, four brothers, Marion, Billy, Gerald, & Roscoe Ownbey, two sisters Oleva Powell and Helen Vest.

Survivors include her six sons, Erling (Cathy) of Lynnwood, WA, Verne (Linda) of Hanford, CA , Larry (DeeDee) of Torrington, WY, Mahlon (Kathy) of Worland, Neil (Linda) of Cody and Kenneth (Kay) of Lakewood, CO; two daughters, Eloise (Larry) Barker of Littleton, CO, and Katherine Anderson of Worland, sister Martha Nichols, of Emida, ID, 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2012 at the Big Horn Baptist Church with Pastor Kenneth Evans officiating. Burial will follow at the Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worland.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:00 to 10:00, prior to services, at the Church. Online condolences may be made at www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com. Bryant Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
