Edith Ada Ready Shumway

Edith Ada Ready Shumway, 94 year old Thermopolis resident passed away on December 29, 2008 in the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming.

Edith was born on January 26, 1914 on her parents homestead on Missouri Flat, Thermopolis, Wyoming to Jesse Foster and Vola Bell (Dockery) Ready.

She attended grade school in the country school of Bellview and then graduated from High School in Thermopolis in 1932. On December 24, 1932 she married Lenard Holliday Shumway in a double wedding with her sister Vera who married Merrill Carroll. She was the mother of 12 children. On November 13, 1951, Lenard, Edith and their family were sealed for Time and Eternity in the Salt Lake Temple.

Edith liked to dance and play cards and games. She played the piano for many dances. She belonged to the Mutual Improvement Club. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worked many years in the women’s organization of the Relief Society and also as an advisor and teacher in the youth and children’s programs. She was an excellent homemaker and cook and the best mother according to her children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lenard Shumway, a son, Steven Duane and two daughters, Betty and Helen; three grandsons, Adrian Bright, Allen Baker, and Spencer Shumway and one granddaughter Gailene Shumway; two sisters, Vera Carroll and Beulah Brown and two brothers, Forrest and Aubrey Ready and her parents.

Edith is survived by her children, Patricia (Charles) Bright of Evanston, WY; Savanna (Kenneth) Baker of Logan, UT, Janice (Jay) Cluff of Manti, UT, currently serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Wisconsin, Marilyn (Brent) Garside of Riverton, UT, LeRoy (Jessie) Shumway, Shirley (Delbert) Lamoreaux, Violet (Randall) Olsen, Beverly Shumway and Eddie Shumway all of Thermopolis, WY. She had 62 grandchildren, 149 Great grandchildren, and 34 Great-great grandchildren.
