Eleanore M. Slifka, 97 year old, Worland resident, passed away at Washakie Medical Center on September 5, 2011.

Eleanore was born on Feb 4, 1914 in Chicago Illinois to Joseph and Anna (Prokes) Tontlewicz. She spent her early years in Chicago and received her education there. She graduated from the Business School in 1930. While working in a factory making military parts for the war, she met her husband, George Slifka. They were married on June 15, 1940 in Chicago where they made their first home in Cicero; Illinois. The couple built their second home in Bensenville, Illinois in 1953. They moved to Bartlett, Illinois in 1968 and then to Goodman, Missouri in 1972. They came to Worland in 1976 where she remained until the time of her death.

Some of Eleanore’s fondest memories were those of fishing with her husband. She loved playing Bingo, cards, dominoes, and putting jigsaw puzzles together. She was a wonderful homemaker and accomplished cook. She spent a lot of her time in later years crocheting and doing handicrafts. She also loved her dog and faithful companion, Sadie. Her world revolved around her children and grandchildren and that love was reciprocated by each one of them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George on July 30, 1996, one brother and 5 sisters.

Eleanore is survived by her daughter, Carol (John) McMartin of Worland; grandchildren: Denise “Dan” Kennedy, Gail “Robert” Golden, Nicholas McMartin, and Nathan McMartin, great grandchildren; Bailey Kennedy, Logan Kennedy, Haley Golden and Kyle Golden.
