Ellen M. Galyan
November 15, 1934 – April 29, 2026
Ellen M. Galyan passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, at Spirit Mountain Hospice, following a brief diagnosis of terminal cancer.
Ellen was born on November 15, 1934, in Torrington, Wyoming, to Erma Reynolds and Alfred Hall. She grew up in Thermopolis, where she graduated from high school at the young age of 17. Shortly thereafter, she married Darrel Heinze in Thermopolis where she began her life as a ranch wife. Her life centered around family, hard work, and community.
She found joy in life's simple pleasures, including cooking, gardening, reading, decorating, playing handbells, traveling, riding horses, and playing bridge. Ellen was especially passionate about being involved in her community. She dedicated over 50 years of service to the Republican Party, served as an HSC election judge for 20 years, and was an active member of the Pioneer Association, Historical Society, Cow-Belle's, Homemakers, and even the "Can Can Girls" dance troupe, just to name a few.
Ellen was also an avid "gym rat" well into her later years. Physical fitness was a part of her daily life, and she could often be found riding her bike to the gym and around town into her late 80s. Her friends at the gym became like a second family, and she treasured the time spent with them each morning.
Ellen lived life on her own terms and was known for her strong will, sharp opinions, and unmistakable energy. She had a vibrant spirit, often compared to the energizer bunny, and there was never any doubt about where you stood with her. She will be remembered for her honesty, determination, and the lasting impression she left on those around her.
Ellen is survived by her son Michael Heinze of Thermopolis; son Merlin (Barb) Heinze of Thermopolis; daughter Gail (Vencil) Wells of Reno, Nevada; daughter Hilda Jones of Thermopolis; daughter in law Linda Heinze and sister Martha Lou Price. She was also blessed with six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished.
She was preceded in death by her son Victor Heinze; her sister, Bobbie Fry; grandsons Doug and Ray Jones; and three husbands.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Saturday May 9, 2026, at the Community Church in Thermopolis, Wyoming, with a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Wyoming Pioneer Home in Thermopolis.
Ellen will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
