Obituary

Ernest Robert "Bob" Fernandez

Worland, Wyoming

Ernest Robert "Bob" Fernandez, 87, a beloved father, grandfather, and proud Worland native, passed away surrounded by family on April 28, 2025. Born in Worland, Wyoming, Bob was the son of Viola (Ortiz) Ramos and Richard Fernandez.

Bob dedicated over 35 years of service as a mail carrier with the United States Postal Service, faithfully serving his community with a friendly wave and steady stride.

As a junior in high school, Bob made Wyoming sports history by winning the state's first high school wrestling championship in 1955. He was drafted during his senior year, and in June 1957, proudly answered the call to serve his country with honors for three years.

A man of extraordinary athletic talent, Bob played semi- pro baseball for the Worland Indians team with his brother, Rudy. He was a Golden Gloves boxer, an avid bowler, and a passionate golfer. He also had a deep love for classic cars, proudly showcasing his 1962 Corvette and 1967 Cadillac convertibles in local parades—always bringing smiles to the community as he shared his passion.

He had a special fondness for horses and loved sharing that connection with his children, creating unforgettable memories of riding and caring for them.

His love of sports extended to the next generations as he actively followed and supported his children and grandchildren in all of their athletic pursuits.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Fernandez and Viola Ramos; sisters Jo Gonzales, Alice Ferguson, and Norma Vigil; and brothers Eddie Fernandez and Rudy Fernandez. He was one of twelve children—six boys and six girls—and is survived by four siblings: Helen Smotherman, Isabella "Chepa" Price, Gloria Uleman, and Gilbert (Jan) Fernandez.

Bob is survived by his five children: Sandy Baker (Twin Falls, ID), Terri (James) Tyson (Salem, OR), Melissa Fernandez (Santa Barbara, CA), Charity (Jay) Glanz (Worland, WY), and Bobbie (Bryan) Brown (Glendale, AZ). He leaves behind nine cherished grandchildren: Shannon (Issac) Lee, Russell (Maggie) Gaynor, Ellie Tyson, Zeph Tyson, Olivia Fernandez, Molly Glanz, Danner Glanz, Brylee Brown, and Braedyn Brown. Bob was also blessed with ten great-grandchildren.

Though divorced, Bob built a life full of love, dedication, and resilience. He remained active and independent until his final days, a true testament to his enduring spirit. His strength, sense of humor, and unwavering support for his family will be dearly missed but forever remembered.
