Floyd Otto Schachterle

Floyd Schachterle, 77 year old, Worland, died at Washakie Medical Center on January 4, 2002.

Memorial services will be held Friday, January 11, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. from the Big Horn Independent Baptist Church in Worland with Pastor Jerry Johnson officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Worland Senior Center in care of Bryant Funeral Home PO Box 524 Worland, Wyoming 82401.

Floyd was born on July 12, 1924 to Jacob and Bertha (Lauderbagh) Schachterle in Loveland, Colorado. He grew up in Loveland and graduated from Loveland High School in 1942. He worked for Woolworth’s in Loveland during his high school years. After graduation he served his country in the Army Air Corps in CBI (China, Burma, India) from 1942-1945. He was a radio operator on B-24’s. After his honorable discharge he returned to Loveland and continued his employment at Woolworth’s.

On February 23, 1947 he married Lois Holcomb in Fort Collins, CO. They moved to Scottsbluff, NE where Floyd worked at Drugs For Less. A salesman from Johnson & Johnson told Floyd that the manager at the Ben Franklin in Worland was seeking an assistant manager. He and Lois then relocated to Worland in April of 1948. He worked for Ben Franklin and became the manager in the years that followed and continued in that position until 1982 when he retired. Deciding that he wasn’t really ready to completely retire he and Lois worked part time at the Ford Dealership doing custodial duties for about 10 years.

Floyd enjoyed hunting in his younger years, and loved to fish and fly tying. He had a knack for visiting with people and loved to meet people. He also enjoyed talking about his time in the service.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, sisters and brothers-in-law, Lorene (Loren) Litterell, and Lois (Albert) Pickering and one nephew Darrel Pickering.

He is survived by his wife Lois of Worland, one son, Jack (Buff) Schachterle of Casper and one daughter Phyllis (Terry) Dack of Greeley, CO, 4 grandchildren David Schachterle, Annette Geelan, Todd and Troy Dack, 8 great-grandchildren and 2 nieces Carol Kay Herman and Reva Ann Longsworth.
