Obituary
Frances Darlene Richins
June 6, 1940 – January 21, 2026
Frances Darlene Richins passed away on January 21, 2026, in Thermopolis, Wyoming. She was born in Henefer, Utah, on June 6, 1940, to Ordell John Stephens and Della Mae Stephens. As a young woman, Fran was active in sports, clubs, and church activities. She played on the 'Coalville Cubs' softball team, which finished second in the state tournament. She was also a cheerleader and tap dancer at North Summit. Fran graduated from North Summit High School in May 1958.
Fran married Roy C. Richins on September 24, 1960. They had three sons: Kendell, Steve, and Wes. Fran and Roy lived in several places before settling in Lyman, Wyoming. Later, they bought a 119-acre ranch in Mountain View, WY, where they built their life together. After retiring, they moved to Thermopolis, WY.
Fran worked hard at everything she did, whether it was helping her husband and sons on the ranch or working outside the home. She worked for New York Life Insurance Company and co-owned the well-loved 'Knit Shop.' Fran also spent many years working for Uinta County School District #4, where she eventually retired.
Fran was a go-getter, tackling any project that came her way. She was an exceptional seamstress, quilter, and knitter. She loved to cook and bake. Her bread, cookies, and cinnamon rolls were favorites of family and friends. Oil painting was one of her passions. You could even find Fran spending time on the golf course from time to time. Fran taught various classes throughout the years, including painting, teaching the 'jitterbug', knitting, and so much more. Truly, you name it, Fran could do it.
Fran's memory lives on through her sons, Kendell (Peggy), Steve (Sandy), and Wes (Delsy), along with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who love her dearly. She is also fondly remembered by her siblings: Gale (Carol), Dan, Jon (Kathy), Jan, Val, and MaryAnn (Kim). Many nieces and nephews also survive her.
Fran was preceded in death by her husband, Roy C. Richins; her grandson, Josh; and many beloved family members, including her parents, sister, grandparents, and in-laws.
A private viewing and cremation were conducted by Bryant Funeral Home in Worland, WY. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the Bridger Valley Stake Center in Lyman, Wyoming.
The family would like to thank the Wyoming Pioneer Home and Stillwater Hospice for their kindness and support while caring for Fran.
