Fred Newcomer
September 14, 1952- March 25, 2026
Fred Newcomer, age 73, brother of Corlet Thornton, Anna Beth Hubbard, and Christine Crain, passed away on March 25, 2026 at his home in Mesa, Arizona from bone marrow cancer complications.
Fred was born on September 14, 1952 in Buffalo, Wyoming to Ed and Wilma Newcomer growing up adjacent to Clear Creek in Buffalo. He attended school through his sophomore year, participated in music and track activities when his father's job transfer moved them to Worland, Wyoming. He continued music, ran track and cross country, and graduated from Worland Hish School in 1971. He served a mission for the LDS church in Central America, attended BYU graduating with a degree in communication and worked in the Quality Control industry. His first job in high school was in Buffalo at the Phillips 66 gas station.
He married Debra Kay Sprague from Powell in 1975 and together raised 5 sons and 1 daughter. Fred liked to say, "We had a basketball team and one cheerleader." They lived in Washington, Illinois, North Carolina, South Carolina, Wyoming, and Arizona.
Fred and Debbie were active members in the LDS church and served others in many positions and were temple workers in the Washington DC and Gilbert, Arizona temples. Debbie preceded him in death in 2019. Fred married Cynthia Sandberg in 2020, who brought encouragement to his life. They were Mesa, Arizona temple workers and served a couple's mission for a year in Colstrip, Montana providing Fred the opportunity to visit his beloved Wyoming and Worland sister.
Fred lived a rich life, was known for his easy-going personality, cheerfulness and sense of humor. He enjoyed serving others, singing in church choirs, playing the piano and organ.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Hollis and brother, Ted.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; his three sisters; children, Trevor of Saratoga Springs, Sam of West Columbia, South Carolina, Ryan of Lehi, Utah, Lacey Costner of Whispering Pines, South Carolina, Randy of Southern Pines, North Carolina and Derrick in Greensboro, North Carolina;19 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held in Mesa, Arizona on April 18, 2026 and can be viewed at https://zoom.us/j/94363294213.
A graveside service will be held at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worland, Wyoming 11:00 AM, Tuesday April 21, 2026. Online condolences may be made at www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com.
