Fred Petersen Shryack

Fred Petersen Shryack, 88 years, of Worland, died on Friday February 22, 2013 at Washakie Medical Center.

Fred was born on April 30, 1924 in Casper, WY to Joe and Gusta (Petersen) Shryack, the third of six children.

Fred attended school in several places including the Shryack Schoolhouse on Gooseberry Creek, Grass Creek, and Worland, where he earned many life-long friends. He was a member of the U.S. Army during WWII and was generally stationed in areas of the South Pacific. During his time there, he served as an MP and a medic.

In 1950, Fred married Reba Higginbotham in Buffalo, WY. They then lived at the Ditch Camp between Neiber and Winchester, WY, as Fred was a worker on the ditch crew. They later resided in Otto and Worland before settling on their ranch on Gooseberry Creek. Fred and Reba raised four children; Nathella, Steve, Carla, and Shauna. They were married for 27 years before their divorce in 1977.

Fred married Oline Muse on September 19, 1977. They were married for 30 years preceding her death in 2007.

Fred will be remembered for his years of riding & roping, playing cards and games with his grandchildren, watering trees and other chores, caring for livestock, herding sheep, fishing, his wry sense of humor, and his willingness to split a bean with anyone who walked in his door.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, as well as his daughter, Nathella; wife, Oline; brothers Walt, Uppie, and Richard; sister Audrey Reavis; and son-in-law, Mark Schneider.

He is survived by one sister, Lynne Ellyn Ammu of Palmer, AK; children Steve(Teryl) Shryack and Shauna(Lee) Decker of Worland, and Carla(Harry) Capser of Joliet, MT; and those he loved most, his grandchildren Charley, Will, Carl, Dusty, Sarah, Myste, Eslin, Hoyt, Kayla, and Ella, and his great-grandchildren Macklan, Jayda, and unborn twin boys Nolan & Gage. Fred always had a soft spot for children just as they did for him.
