Jan 31, 1951 — Dec 25, 2019

Obituary Gary Wayne Gerber January 31, 1951 – December 25, 2019 Gary Wayne Gerber, 68-year-old longtime Worland resident passed away at Spirit Mountain Hospice from Metastatic Lymphoma in Cody, Wyoming on December 25, 2019. Gary was born on January 31, 1951 in Olney, Illinois, the second of 6 children born to Carl Edward and Juwanda Glenn (Wharf) Gerber. The family moved to Worland when he was only 5 years old. He grew up in Worland. During his Jr. High School summers, he and his brother Carl ran a lawn service. They later hired on to hoe sugar beets. He claimed to have hoed a WHOLE lot of beets! This instilled a great work ethic in him at a young age. It helped him during his high school years as well where he lettered in track, competing in the 100- and 200-yard dash as well as relays. His first "real" job was working at Jon's IGA. After his graduation from Worland High School in 1970, he went to work for the City of Worland. His loyalty and hard work kept him there for 45 years, retiring in 2016. He was the Assistant Superintendent of Public Works for 20 of those years. Gary was a very loving and generous man. He worked hard and he played hard. His brothers looked up to him as "the strong one" and "the one who liked being in charge". He was someone who took charge and got things done, quite the go-getter. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a die-hard Wyoming Cowboys fan. He attended every game he could, no matter the sport or season. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lonnie. Survivors include his brothers, Carl (Barbara)Gerber of Seattle, WA, Monty (Evelyn) Gerber of Worland, Kenny (Ann) Gerber of Boise, ID, Mike (Gen) Gerber of Worland; sister, Loretta Schneider of Gillette, WY; nephews, Michael, Wesley, Jonathon, Benjamin, Monty (Carrie), Paul (Mary); nieces, Laura, Cynthia, and Stacy (Jeremy). As per Gary's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal services. There will be a private family inurnment later this spring. Memorial donations may be made to the New Hope Humane Society and sent to PO Box 524, Worland, WY 82401.
