Tensleep, Wyoming

Emblem

He was a cowboy.
Slim Whitt came bucking and bawling into the world on December 26, 1929 in Dodge County Nebraska, to William Matthew and Ludella Fern Whitt. He caught a fast horse home on January 17, 2014 surrounded by family.
He came to Wyoming when he was 14 years old to be a cow-oy. He lived his dream and was a rancher and a cowboy until the time of his passing. Slim served his country by seeing active duty in the Korean War with his brothers Bill and Bob Whitt.
He was decorated for his service with a Purple Heart and a Silver Star. He said he was happy to serve his country, but after coming home they would have "had to burn the forest and sift the ashes to get him to go back"
Slim raised nine children; Hub, Hugh, Ash, Kenny, Ab Whitt, Becky Cushing, Bonnie Whitt, Kellie Russell, and Tammy Coo-per. From these children he was the grandfather of 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He never knew a stranger and never turned anyone away from his door.
He was a published author of short stories and real cowboy poetry. Slim was proud to have "seen Wyoming before she was fenced up." He was one of the last cowboys who could remember driving cattle to the railheads in Nieber and Lysite, and was a real good old boy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandmother Cohee,
and two sisters Marcella Taylor and Birdeen Morris.
Funeral Services will be held at The Methodist Parish Hall, on Thursday January 23, 2014 at 1:00pm, 425 North Cottonwood St. in Ten Sleep, Wyoming. Burial will follow at the Ten Sleep Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.bry-antfuneralhomeonline.com.
