George Adam Schneider

George Adam Schneider, 89 year old, Worland resident, died at his home on June 8, 2007. He was born on December 8, 1917 in Walla Walla, Washington a son of Jacob & Mary (Meyers) Schneider. In 1922 the family moved to Washakie County. Adam received his elementary education at the Durkee School and then attended the South Flat School.

Adam had a passion for boxing as a young man. He had 84 professional fights and held the title Feather Weight Champion.

He was married to Frieda Batt on February 6, 1938 in Worland, Wyoming at the Zion Lutheran Church. They made their home in Worland until the time of their deaths.

Adam started farming as a young man on the family farm on South Flat. During the next several years he helped drill many water well around the basin. He also farmed for many years for Mac Andrews. In 1944 he went to auctioneer school. He then spent the next 25 years as an auctioneer. During the 1950’s Adam also worked as a distributor for Charles A. Alexander. He then went to work for Worland Machine Shop as a salesman.

Adam’s other passions included his wife Frieda and his garden. He was known for his tomatoes and cucumbers. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a life time member of the Zion Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; sisters: Anna Clymore and Mary Piel; brothers: Jake, Fred, Alex, Ben and one grandson Mark.

He is survived by his son Roy (Jackie) Schneider, Worland: daughters: Gayleen (William) Percival of Palm Desert, CA, and Bonnie (Michael) Groshart of Grand Blanc, MI; brothers: Paul and Bill Schneider of Worland; sisters: Leah Piel and Rachel Scheuerman of Worland; grandchildren: Rick, Brett and Lanny Schneider, Doug Percival, Krista Aldrich, Philip Percival, Julie Groshart, Matthew Groshart; and seven great-grandchildren.
