Gordon Bullard Hoffman

Sep 13, 1927 — Mar 1, 2025

Gordon Bullard Hoffman, a devoted husband, family man, hardworking oilman, and cherished member of the Ten Sleep community, passed peacefully with loved ones by his side on March 1, 2025 in Ten Sleep, Wyoming, at the age of 97.

He was born on September 13, 1927, in Kane, Wyoming to Norman and Clara (Bullard) Hoffman. He married his beloved wife, Edith Eva Lee Johnson on September 23, 1944, and was married for 73 years. That November, they had their first-born daughter, Wanda Jean. Much later in life they adopted three children: Lavan DeMar, Michael Wayne, Vanessa Gail and a great-grandson, Mathew Gordon.

Gordon was a humble man with a strong work ethic that would define his more than 50-year career as an oil man. At 16 years old, he began his career in the oil industry as a roustabout. At the age of 27, due to his skills and experience, he was personally contacted by J. Paul Getty, at that time, one of the wealthiest individuals in the world, to work for him overseas. He uprooted his family and took assignments across the globe to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Venezuela, Indonesia, Norway, Holland, and Nigeria, Africa. He became one of the best drillers in the World! His career shaped his remarkable life. Those fortunate enough to hear his tales could sit for hours, captivated by the incredible experiences he had amassed over nearly a century of life.

In 1975 he purchased the family homestead, Hoffman's Juniper Hill Ranch, in Ten Sleep, WY. He and Eva Lee welcomed family and friends to gather, celebrate and fill their lives with memories. Large family gatherings at the ranch were the norm for the holidays and family reunions. Gordon was generous and willing to serve others.

Though he achieved immense success in life, he remained humble. He never wasted anything and preferred to use his resources to help others rather than indulge himself. He was an active member of the LDS Church, and his faith was the cornerstone of his life. He expressed gratitude for his blessings and offered prayers for his loved ones daily. Gordon also dedicated time to serving his community in numerous ways. He was a member of the Ten Sleep Museum board and served as the financial clerk of the Ten Sleep LDS Church for over 15 years. He also volunteered as a Scout Master in Abu-Dhabi. His contributions left a lasting impact on those around him.

Beyond work and faith, Gordon had many passions. He loved riding horses and especially enjoyed wagon train trips with his dear friend Sam Hampton. He also had a love for snowmobiling—a passion he passed down to his family, especially Mike and Matthew.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Edith Eva Lee Hoffman; daughters, Wanda Jean Chopping and Vanessa Hoffman; parents, Norman and Clara (Bullard) Hoffman; as well as many cherished siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who went before him.

Gordon is survived by and missed by his children; Lavan & Michael (Alecia). Forever cherished and remembered by his nine grandchildren; Fiona, Richard, Justina, Colin, Nicholas, Christopher, Hannah, Corey (Kennedy) and Abagail; Sixteen Great Grandchildren, Channah, Daud, Matthew (Stephanie), Monica, Justice, Alexis, Zander, Zoey, Drake, Noah, Marlow, Lyla, Izabella, Titus, Bentley, Blair and Eden. His great-great granddaughter Melody. His siblings' families; Paul (Fern) and children, Dennis "Butch" (Doreen) and children, Genevieve Pettit and

children. His beloved niece Shirley (Harry) Zane. His memory will be cherished by the Mundy family; Bill (JoAnn), Forrest (Jodi), Willy (Jackie) and children.
