Harry Mills, 80, of Ten Sleep, Wyoming, passed away peacefully at home on July 7, 2026. He was born on June 25th, 1946, in Worland to Foster (Dutch) and Mable Mills of Ten Sleep, WY.
Harry was raised on the family ranch in Ten Sleep, where he attended Ten Sleep Schools from First through 12th grade and excelled in all sports that the small school had to offer. He earned a scholarship to attend Chadron State College to play basketball and football. He chose to attend Casper College, however, because he thought Chadron was too far from home. He met Betty Goodhue while attending Casper College, and the two were married on September 13, 1968. He later graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture in 1970.
Harry was a 5th-generation Wyoming resident and, aside from his years in college, was a lifelong resident of Ten Sleep. He loved his community and was a member of the school board for two terms in the 80’s. Neighboring ranchers knew they could depend on Harry. From an emergency C-section on a cow, to a stuck pickup, he was always willing to help out day or night. He knew his livestock as well as he knew his own kids, and any important information, such as a number on an ear tag could be found written on the bottom of a can of Copenhagen.
Harry was known to his friends and family as someone who laughed easily, especially at himself. He was an amazing father and husband. He had reasons to be angry at some of the blows that life dealt, but chose to stay happy and positive. He had time to listen to stories, but could also tell a good story. His grandkids describe him as someone who makes you feel better about life.
He loved John Wayne movies, Louis Lamour books, his dogs, his horses, hunting, rodeo, and a variety of other ranching, farming (haying), and cowboy activities. Most of all, though, he loved his family, spending time with his family and receiving phone calls from his kids, grandkids, sisters, nieces and nephews.
Harry recently received his 50-year Masonic pin and has always been very proud of his involvement in the Masons.
Harry will be remembered by his friends and family as a man who was honest, paid attention to details, and had many friends. He was a humble man who appreciated simple things provided by a life of living and working in a small town.
Harry was preceded in death by his parent, Foster and Mable; and son, Scott Mills.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, John (Alexandra) Mills of Bellingham, Washington, Kyle (Kim) Mills of Casper, Wyoming; daughter, Jane (Travis) Carlson of Thayne, Wyoming; sister, Judith (Wayne) Christensen of Newcastle, Wyoming, Marsha (Bruce) Carter of Longmont, Colorado; and numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Services will be held one Monday, July 13, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Ten Sleep, Wyoming. The family ask that in lieu of flowers a contribution to a charity of your choice be made in Harry’s name. Online condolences may be made at www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com.
