James (Jim) Albert Baker

June 11, 1926 - October 6, 2009

James Albert Baker, 83 year old, Worland resident, died at Washakie Medical Center following his battle with cancer.

Jim was born on June 11, 1926 a son of Albert Marion & Emaline Waive (Sutton) Baker in Torrington, Wyoming. He traveled as a young man working on dry land farms with his father, working on Gooseberry and in the Big Horn Basin.

He served his country in Germany and France in the US Army during World War II working in the motor pool. Following the war he moved back to Worland and continued farming for a short time. He helped in building the Sulfur Plant north of Worland. Jim married Bonnie Packer on February 2, 1950 in Torrington, Wyoming. They made their home in Worland; Jim worked on several of the area farms for the next several years. He worked for a gas station for a short time, and then worked on road construction around the state. The family moved to Buffalo, WY in 1965 where Jim worked for Buckingham Lumber and later drove truck for Pepsi. In 1977 they returned to Worland and he started Mountain View Welding, welding in the oil field and for local farmers. After retirement he helped drive trucks during beet harvest.

His hobbies included, love for the mountains, camping, fishing, and being a campground host at Lost Cabin, Collecting guns, model cars and trucks, Helping in the garden and working cross word puzzles.

He is preceded in death by his parents and five sisters.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie of Worland, son David (Melinda) of Denver City, TX, daughters: Regina (Duane) Jameson of Gillette, Cathy Hendrix of Worland, Cherie Henderson of Basin, WY, Sue (John) Demaree of Laramie, Mary Jo Smith of Laramie, brothers; Bill (Laura Lee) Baker of Casper, Robert (Beverly) Baker of Casper, Richard & Faye Baker of Worland, sisters; Shirley (Vern) Ernest of Casper, Betty Grant of Salt Lake City, UT, 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Worland with Pastor Shaun Matako officiating. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Post #44.
