Obituary

Janice Ann Harris

October 13, 1933 - October 10, 2024

Janice Ann Harris, passed away peacefully at the Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center on October 10, 2024, just three days shy of her 91st birthday. Born on October 13, 1933, in Gordon, Nebraska, she was the daughter of Homer Henry and Margaret Laverne (Glocke) Westover.

Janice graduated from high school in 1953 and soon after married Herald "Bud" Harris, welcoming their son Michael into the world just 11 months later. In 1956, Jan and Herald parted ways, but she later reconnected with an old sweetheart, Marvin Earl Harris. Together, they had two more children, Scott and Tammy. Tragically, Marvin passed away in Denver, Colorado in 1975, leaving Janice to navigate the working world as a single mother.

Janice spent most of her life in Martin, South Dakota, before moving to Worland three years ago to be closer to her daughter. Throughout her life, she was known for her infectious laugh that could light up a room—or in her case, echo across the golf course or nursing home. An avid golfer, Jan enjoyed many spirited rounds with friends and cherished family trips that created lasting memories.

As a dedicated member of the American Legion Auxiliary since 1953, she served her community with pride. Janice had a special gift for listening and making those around her feel valued and loved, often hosting late-night chats with her in-laws and friends. Her love for animals, particularly dogs, was evident as she treated her pets as valued family members.

Janice was a strong and independent woman whose spirit touched all who knew her. She enjoyed long walks and the Denver Broncos, embodying a zest for life that inspired others. Her legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will forever be remembered by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Margaret; husband, Marvin; sister, Georgia Daughters; brothers, Dean and Terry Westover and great-grandson, Gavin Harris.

Janice is survived by her sons, Michael Harris of Martin, South Dakota and Scott (Teresa) Harris of Black Hawk, South Dakota; daughter, Tammy (Dave) Willard of Worland; grandchildren, Lindsee Harris, Sarah Harris, Nikki (Alex) Christensen, Jason (Kayla) Harris, Sydnee (Shawn) Smith, Coleton (Jenny) Willard, Taylor (Garrett) Heusinkveld; great-grandchildren: Marcus Harris, Jared Harris, Ethan, Stella, Griffin, Sunnie, Baker, Payton, Lucas, Landri, Callan, Vantz, Lawson and a baby on the way.

A graveside service will be held in Martin, South Dakota at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com.
