John L. Allred Jr.

John L. Allred Jr. 70 year old, Worland resident passed Friday, September 10, 2010 at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper of heart complications.

He was born in Worland, WY on October 4, 1939 to Rachel (Shaner) and John L. Allred Sr. John attended school in Worland from 1st grade through High School. He graduated in the last class of the Washakie County High School; now know as Worland High School. After High School, he attended Casper College and B.Y. U., then obtaining a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Wyoming.

John joined the Air Force in 1960 at the age of 21. He attended Cadet training in Harlingen, TX and flight Navigation School at Mather Air Force Base, CA. After navigation school, John came home to Worland and married Linda Miller. Together they traveled the World while John was in the service. Their duty stations in included Europe, Asia and throughout the United States.

John served his Country during the Vietnam War as a navigator in a C130 aircraft. He was a proud member of the United States Military, serving with honor. He remained a supporter of the military throughout his life. After 20 years and 3 days of service, John retired to Worland.

In Worland, John worked for Weaver & Sons as an engineer. He then spent 18 years with the City of Worland.

John was an avid fisherman, fly-tier, hunter, and woodworker. He enjoyed traveling with family going to Africa and recently completing his dream vacation to Alaska. He also enjoyed camping and target shooting with his son-in-law and grandchildren. Each year for 26 years, he got together with his lifelong buddies the "4 Aces", they attended social events and camped together a least twice a year. Renewing friendships was very important to John.

He was preceded in death by his parents and Sister Mary Ann Richardson.

John is survived by his wife of 48 years Linda, children; Evelyn Allred, Christine Walker, David Allred, Leah (Christopher) Hilmer, and 6 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center in Worland. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to service time. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery with American Legion and VFW post 45 in charge of Military Honors. Memorial donations may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America in care of Bryant Funeral Home. On line condolences may be made at bryantfuneralhomeonline.com.
