John Henry Reed

John Henry Reed, 86-year-old Worland resident died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Worland Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Worland, Wyoming.

John was born August 12, 1914 in Bandera, Lima County, Texas, the son of John Henry Reed, Sr., and Seletia Ann Buckelew Reed. He lived in Texas until age 13, when he came to Wyoming to be with his mother, who had a homestead on Spring Creek in the Big Horn Mountains. He herded sheep for several years, as a youth. He and his mother moved to Cody in May of 1943. Shortly thereafter, he joined the U.S. Navy and served as a motor Machinist’s Mate First Class, on the USS Oak Hill, and participated in the landing on Okinawa. He received his honorable discharge in November of 1945.

He married Pearl Jensen on November 7, 1948 in Cody, Wyoming. They were blessed with four children – Karen, Mary Sue, Berry & John.

He worked for Husky Oil Company for 21 years. While in Cody, John enjoyed ranching and the outdoors. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many different positions. On October 12, 1954 john and Pearl were sealed in the Logan Temple.

In 1969 he moved to Worland, where he purchased the Pawnee Motel, then later purchased the Town & Country Motel, Wortham’s Trailer Park and then the Worland Campground.

He is survived by his wife Pearl, daughters, Karen Lohof of Washington, Utah, and Mary Sue Younger of Midland, Texas, two sons, Berry of Worland, and John of Salem, Utah. 16 grandchildren, one brother Pete Reed and one sister Loma Weeds, both of Bandera, Texas.

His parents preceded him in death.
