Joseph Allen Godfrey was born on November 29, 1977, to David and Linda Godfrey in Worland and passed away on June 22, 2026 in Billings, Montana, after complications from cancer surgery.
In his elementary and middle school years, Joe was active in 4-H shooting sports, a junior leader, and showed pigs. He was a Boy Scout and earned his Eagle Scout badge. He grew up hunting with his family and loved the outdoors. Joe graduated from Worland High School in 1996, where he played football, wrestled, and was on the boys' swimming team. He was the president of the Chief Washakie FFA chapter during his sophomore and junior years. Joe earned his state FFA degree and won the state swine proficiency award. After graduating, Joe joined the Marine Corps. He was stationed in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, where he served as a radio operator for the 3rd Marine Regiment. He was an excellent marksman and a great leader. After two tours in the Marines, Joe was honorably discharged as a Corporal. Joe returned home and worked before heading off to college. Joe was on the Student Advisory Board at MSUB and graduated in 2010 with a BA in Business Administration, Magna Cum Laude; a BS in Marketing, also Magna Cum Laude; and a BS in Finance. He reconnected with the love of his life, Grace, in January of 2011, and they were later married in July of 2012. While Joe and Grace never had children, they did have wiener dogs, Rollo, Ammo, and Willy, whom he considered his “boys”. Joe loved supporting his wife in her FFA endeavors, and he was proud to have started up the Chief Washakie FFA Alumni and Supporters group.
Joe is preceded in death by his grandparents and his mother and father, Linda and David Godfrey.
He is survived by his wife, Grace; sister, Bobbie (Les) Moore of Worland, brother, Jake (Shawna) Godfrey of Billings, MT, five nieces and nephews and six great-nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be sent to the Chief Washakie FFA Alumni. Please send checks to PO Box 524 Worland, Wyoming 82401.
