Joe P. Salzman, 63, died at the family farm on September 7, 2000 of a heart attack. Joe was born on March 5, 1937 in Worland to Pete & Catherine (Lehman) Salzman. He graduated from high school in Ten Sleep in 1955. He attended the University of Wyoming for one year, and was then married to Elayne Rataezyk on July 26, 1958 in Worland. He worked for a short time for Forgey Construction, then for Holly Sugar during campaign. He started farming on his own in 1961. In the late 1960’s Joe received the Jaycee’s outstanding young farmers award. In 1971, he purchased the farm that he grew up on and has continued to farm until his death. He loved collecting old toy tractors and restoring antique tractors

He has served his community in many facets including, serving on boards for the Washakie County Beet Growers association, the Lower Hanover Canal Board which he was a past president, Washakie County School Board, Hot Springs REA, Elks, St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church where he was a Knight of Columbus, Federal Land Bank Board, ASCS Board, Farm Bureau Board, Washakie County Fair Board, Joe was instrumental in helping to put the fair grounds in its present location. He also served as a 4-H Leader. He was a good father, husband, and grandfather, he loved to farm and work the ground.

He is survived by his wife Elayne, son and daughter in law Curtis & Debbie Salzman, daughters and son in laws, Connie Jo and Tom Clark and Cheryl & Jay Hergert all of Worland, one brother Gene Salzman of Glenrock, Wyoming and one sister Cathy (Ray) Gotfredson of Carbondale, CO., his grandchildren, Colton & Cenzie Jo Clark & Andrew Salzman.

He was preceded in death by his parents Pete in January of 2000 and Catherine in October of 1995.
