Joshua D. “Shmiedel” Riedel, 23 year old, Worland resident died on July 23, 2004 in Pinedale, Wyoming from an oil field accident.
Josh was born on May 2, 1981 in Mobridge, South Dakota, a son of Duane S. & Diana L. (Campbell) Riedel. At the age of two weeks Josh and his family moved to Worland where he attended South Side Elementary. During his middle school years he was given the nickname “Shmiedel”. Josh was very active in sports throughout school. During high school he participated in track & field, soccer where he was a goalkeeper, basketball, but his love was football where he excelled; in 1999 he was named to the Super 25. In 2000 he was selected to play in the Shrine Bowl and was named to the All State football team. He graduated from Worland High School in 2000.
Josh attended Rocky Mountain Aviation School for two year in Billings, Montana, where he played college football. He then transferred to the University of Wyoming where his major was in math. During the fall 2003 he worked for Walt Disney as a lifeguard, during school he worked for Wal-Mart and 2003 summer he worked for Marathon Ashland as a pipeline hand. His most recent employment was with Nabors Drilling in Pinedale, WY where they nicknamed him “Hoss”.
Josh loved the outdoors, hunting, backpacking, snowmobiling and snowboarding; He enjoyed the adventure of climbing Devils Tower. He also liked to hunt birds and large game with family and friends.
He is survived by his parents Duane & Diana Riedel of Worland, brothers Daniel & Matthew of Worland, grandfather Vernon Riedel of Wentworth, SD, foster sister; Vicki Mundo Herrera their children Jorge, Reene, Jose, Yesenia and David.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Gerald & Ione Campbell and grandmother Doris “Jean” Riedel.
