Obituary
Joyce ILeen Outland
May 12, 1929 - August 26, 2019
Joyce ILeen Outland went to be with our Lord, Monday, August 26, 2019.
She was born on May 12, 1929 in Worland to Roy and Catheryne (Schaff) Sweet, the youngest of two children. Joyce grew up in Ten Sleep in simple surroundings that she and her sister, Marjorie made exciting and rewarding. She loved her dog, Fritz, playing in the creek behind their house and bugging sister Marjorie and her friends to include her. As she got older, she enjoyed Girl Scouts, 4-H, Pep Club and was editor of the school paper. She graduated from Ten Sleep High School in 1947.
Joyce met E.J. on a blind date arranged by her best friend, Mary Ann. They dated three months, then married June 2, 1947 at the United Methodist Church in Billings, Montana. To this union three children were born, Ron, Cathie and Gary.
Joyce and E.J. enjoyed camping, rock hunting and square dancing. After the kids were well into their school years, Joyce went to work at First National Bank (now Pinnacle Bank) as a teller and bookkeeper. Later, Joyce and E.J. bought and operated Meadowlark Ski Lodge, retired from there. They later purchased Meadowlark Lake Lodge together with Jack and Betty O'Neal, bringing the resort back into operation instead of ending up on the auction block.
They loved to travel with friends, Marv and Irene Frits, Hugh and Eula Jene Willard, Harry and Dorthea Kenagy and E.J.'s sisters and brother.
After selling the resort and retiring for a second time, they purchased a fifth-wheel mobile home and became snowbirds in the winter and campground hosts in the summer.
Joyce needed to keep busy after E. J. passed away, so she became more involved with her church group, volunteering at the hospital and Senior Center. She played the drums in the band at the Worland Senior Center and was a senior companion.
Joyce loved her puppy, Molly, the first of her furry companions. When Molly passed away suddenly, she rescued Angel, her Shih tzu, a dearly loved companion for the last 8 years.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Marjorie and her husband of 54 years, E.J.
Survivors include her children, Ron (Julie) Outland of Chester, California, Cathie (Frank) Paxton of Worland, Gary (Lynne) Outland of Sheridan, Wyoming, 8 grandchildren, John Scott (Chelssa) Outland, Kristi (Wes) Coffin, Lisa Outland, David Paxton (Lori Paulsen), Lori (Jon) Short, Tammy (Aaron) Hanify, Kacey (Jennifer) Outland, Stephanie (Shane) Quick; 22 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Worland with Pastor Kayilu Pfoze officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held 7:00 p.m. Monday evening and one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Memorial donations may be made to the United Methodist Church or to the Worland Senior Center and be sent to P.O. Box 524, Worland, WY 82401.
