Obituary

Katharine Elizabeth Engel

September 17, 1964- October 13, 2024

Katharine Elizabeth Engel (age 60) passed away unexpectedly on October 13, 2024 in Gainesville, Florida.

Kat was born in Naples, Florida on September 17, 1964 to Jimmy and Rose (Mitchell) Engel. She was the third child of her mother's six children. As a child she moved around a lot from state to state until her family finally set roots in Wyoming. Kat grew up in Gebo with her mother, siblings and step-father Don Hendryx. She graduated from Thermopolis High School. She was a long-term resident of Worland, Wyoming where she raised her two children, Joshua and Bettina. She worked several different jobs in the community and met so many people along the way that soon became like family. Kat had numerous hobbies and was well known for her artwork. Drawings, jewelry, dream catchers etc., she could do anything she set her mind to. One of her greatest joys in life was her grandchildren, Izaiah and Kaycen. She enjoyed the yearly extended trips to Wyoming to spend time with them. Spoiling them with gifts, snuggles & her famous 'mint tea'. Kat met her fiancé Mike Sakal in 2013. They relocated back to her birth state of Florida where she spent her last few years of life. Kat enjoyed tending to her garden and her chickens. She had a love for plants and flowers and even opened up her very own shop before she passed away. She truly valued connecting with new people and sharing life stories. If you knew Kat, she was easy-going and quick to take anyone under her wing. Because of this, she was known to many as "Momma Kat". Her generosity followed her even in death. She was able to save lives by donating her organs to 3 separate recipients. She will greatly be missed.

Kat was proceeded in death by her mother, Rose Hendryx; father, Gaylord (Jimmy) Engel; stepmother, Jeri Engel, and her sister, Angie Engel.

She is survived by her fiancé, Mike Sakal; son, Joshua Arellano; daughter, Bettina Arellano; grandsons: Izaiah& Kaycen; step-father, Don Hendryx; sisters, Dee (Ash) Foster, Rose(Tom) Eaves and Dawn Hendryx; brother, Jim (Stephanie) Engel, and many nieces/nephews, cousins and friends.
