LaRae came into the world on April 7, 1975. A spring storm had dumped approximately 18” of snow on the ground, making it difficult for her mother to get to the Washakie Memorial Hospital. She arrived at 12:07 PM that day to the delight of her parents. LaRae was a late child to her parents, Eugene A Whitlock and Charlotte Mills Whitlock.
Her four older brothers were Boyd, age 14, Mark age 18, Wayne, 20 and Craig 22.
The older boys were away at that time for schooling or church missions, but Boyd hurried home each day from school to be able to spend time with his little sister and they have always had a very special relationship.
LaRae attended school in Worland. During her junior year, she decided she would rather take art classes. Art was a great love for her and there are many of her paintings in the family home. She loved to stay busy creating cards and bookmarks for her family and friends.
After High School, she first attended NWCC in Powell for a year, then spent the next year at home. She was undecided about a course of study, but went to Laramie and took various college courses and became an excellent student with a great desire to excel. She then attended May Tech in Billings, MT, taking their medical assisting course. She was one of the top students scholastically and had only one course to complete to get her Associates Degree in that field when the school tool out bankruptcy and she, as well as all of the other students, lost everything they had worked for. She then returned to Laramie to continue her studies in the medical field, but called home one day to report that she wanted to drop out and enroll at Wyo Tech in Laramie to develop her first love of Auto Paint and Body and Mechanics. Again, she excelled and was chosen by the school as the outstanding student in the business and management course that preceded her other courses.
She purchased a 1950 Ford in which she spent many hours in restoring until she became ill in late 2000, early 2001. She was diagnosed with Cushings Syndrome when she came home for Christmas in 2000. She underwent surgery and many treatments to overcome the disease. She passed away at St Vincents Hospital in the early morning hours of November 7, 2002.
She is greatly loved and admired by all of her family. The medical personnel that treated her often commented about what a fighter she was. She had been determined to overcome her illness.
LaRae was preceded in death by her grandparents, Andrew and Ludina Anderson Whitlock, Uncle Glen Whitlock, Uncle Les Kimzey, Grandfather Milo B. Mills, Aunts Merlyn B. Daugherty, Rhoana Mills Goodrich, Uncle Boyd S. Mills.
She is survived by her parents, Eugene and Charlotte Whitlock, 4 brothers, Craig (SuZann), Mark (April), and Boyd (Anna Marie) all of Worland, Wayne (Allyson) of Los Altos, CA, as well as her grandmother, Ireta S. Mills of Worland, 15 Nieces and nephews, and one grand niece and grand nephew.
