When Jacob retired, Leeland continued farming by himself and later with his sons until he retired in 1995. Leeland was born to farm. He loved farming and working on his own equipment. He received the Outstanding Young Farmer Award and served on various agricultural boards. Snowmobiling in winter and fishing with his best friend, Elmer Miller in summer were his favorite forms of recreation.
