Obituary
Leroy Arlus Evans
December 1, 1945 – June 2, 2026
Leroy Arlus Evans, 80, passed away at the Sheridan VA Medical Center Nursing Home Unit on June 2, 2026. Leroy was a beloved father, grandfather, friend, and honored veteran.
Born in Cheyenne, Wyoming on December 1, 1945, to Arlus Ward Evans and Ida Elizabeth Herman, Leroy was raised along with his five siblings in nearby Hereford, Wyoming. After graduating from high school, he answered the call to serve his country when he was drafted into the United States Army. Being assigned to an Armored Tank Division, Leroy courageously served in Vietnam during his enlistment. Having sustained considerable injuries during the war, Leroy was honored with the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice. His military service remained a source of quiet pride throughout his life.
After returning to the States, Leroy was stationed at Fort Knox, where he met his beautiful bride, Susan Bailey. The two were soon married and were delighted to add two wonderful children to their family, Jason and Laura. The two later divorced, however his devotion to his children never wavered. Of all his accomplishments, they were what Leroy was most proud of.
Upon discharge from the Army, Leroy settled in Basin, Wyoming where he built a life of hard work and dedication. Over the years he worked for Wyo-Ben, LK Trucking, GK Construction, and BTI Trucking before health challenges eventually forced him into retirement.
Leroy was blessed with a remarkable talent for craftmanship. He especially loved woodworking and spent countless hours creating beautiful tables, shadow boxes, fences and other projects that reflected not only his talent, but also his patience. He also found great happiness and enjoyment in Wyoming's wildlife, hunting, and fishing. He appreciated the simple beauty of nature.
To his family, Leroy was a stern but steady loving presence. He demonstrated strength and taught valuable life lessons in both words and action. In his later years his serious side gave way to a more mischievous one and he became known for his ornery sense of humor, jokes, and joy of making others laugh.
Leroy will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honored for his service, his strength, and his devotion to family. May he rest in peace. His work here is done, his watch is over, and his memory will live forever in all who knew, respected, and loved him.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Laura Evans; and sister Wanda True. He is survived by his son, Jason Evans of Worland; brother, Gary (Genie) Evans of Cheyenne, Wy; sisters, Betty Olson of Basin Wyoming, Emma Evans of St. George, Utah, and Lois (Mac) Burt of Ault, Colorado; grandchildren Taylor Kane Guthrie, Samantha Jubb, and Taryn Rutherford; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services with full military honors will take place at Riverview Memorial Cemetery in Worland, Wyoming 12:00 PM, June 27, 2026. Bryant Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com.
