Loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and wife Marian Bonde Eulberg Wilson passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 6th 2012 at the age of 92.
Born in Putney, South Dakota on May 25th, 1919 to Parents Nels and Mary Bonde; Marian, one of five girls, attended school in Putney and spent her none school time helping her father in his blacksmith shop and on the family farm. In 1937 she graduated from Groton High School. After receiving her certification at Northern State Teachers College, she returned to Putney to teach in the elementary school she once attended. After four years, Marian returned to Northern to pursue her bachelor’s degree. Soon after, her roommate Cora Eulberg introduced Marian to her brother Albion who was home on furlough from the U.S. Army. After many letters and a long distance courtship on Feb 11th of 1944 Marian and Albion were married in Whittier, California. At the end of the war the couple returned to South Dakota but soon discovered that farming was not for them. With four children and matching teaching degrees, they taught in Hot Springs, South Dakota and later moved the youngest three children to Worland where Marian retired in 1981. Albion and Marian traveled extensively and could be seen exploring their many hobbies including rock club and making and selling tole painted pieces that Albion cut the wood and Marian painted. Their devotion and commitment was an example of true love to those who had the privilege to be in their company. Although retired, Marian never slowed down and her love of teaching continued as she volunteered as a 4-H leader, Boy Scout leader, and teaching tole painting classes.
After Albion’s death on Oct 24th of 1989 Marian shared her many talents with those around her and was an active member in the community. She belonged to many different clubs and organizations including: Delta Kappa Gamma (teaching sorority), a board member at the Worland Senior Center, the Reading council, the Historical Society, Billings Dab and Gab (a tole painting club), bridge groups, and a member of the Washakie County Homemakers in which she received the Wyoming State Quealy award for her dedication.
Never one to stop living and loving life, Marian met her fishing partner and second love while gaining another loving daughter and family when she married Norman Wilson on December 19, 1995. Norm showered Marian with love and gifts of all the little things, her home always had fresh flowers. They enjoyed traveling and spent the winters in Spain and then Lake Havasu, Arizona. Marian has told her granddaughters that she was lucky to have two loves of her life and to be loved by two wonderful men.
After Norm’s passing in 2004 Marian continued to explore her hobbies including making jams and jellies, horse radish, crafts, quilting, crochet, crossword puzzles, gardening, flowers. Her many exhibits will be missed at the County fair. She also was a member of many bridge clubs and the Red Hat society.
Always a spiritual person, Marion was a member of the St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church.
Marian’s memory will live on in the hand crocheted afghans in each of her children, grandchildren, and great grand children’s homes. The loving jars of jellies in her friends and families cupboards, her practical and simply put advice, and the memories she has made by always living each day to the fullest.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands Albion Eulberg and Norman Wilson on December 3, 2004, three sisters Johanna Clark, Evelyn Pharis, and Dorthy Padgett.
