Merlin Dean Short
April 13, 1951- January 27, 2022
Merlin "Dean" Short, 70, passed away at home with his family by his side on January 27, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Dean was born to Eldon Leroy and Dorothy Francis (Braunell) Short in Worland, Wyoming on April 13, 1951. He grew up in Winchester with his 8 siblings, enjoying the small-town life and being surrounded by his friends and family.
As a teenager, Dean met the love of his life, Susan Rae Lewis. They knew their love could last a lifetime and were married on May 1, 1970. This union brought three children that were the light of his life, Chris, Jonathan and Jamie.
After growing up in Winchester and settling in Worland, Dean became a seismographer, a driller, and a proud business owner. He had a strong work ethic and was passionate about his career. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, and family vacations.
One of his favorite pastimes, was hunting and fishing with his nephew Rob. Dean was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who was greatly adored and will be missed by all.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Dorothy; brothers, Eldon and Don; sisters, Edith Patterson, Kay Sonesen and Dixie Robinson; and son, Chris Short.
Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Sue; son, Jonathan (Lori) Short of Ten Sleep, Wyoming; daughter, Jamie (Wesley) Downs of Riverton, Wyoming; grandchildren: Brandon, Krissen, Jonathan (Dixie) Short, Jazmine and Wesley Jr; great-grandchildren: Kambryee, Kayson, Levi, Emma and Jace; brother, Robert (Gloria) Short of Worland; sisters, Doris McGary of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Shirly Cooper of Craig, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with Nate Douglas officiating. Inurnment will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com.
