Merrill Egan Yorgason

Merrill Egan Yorgason, 78 year old Ten Sleep resident, died on August 26, 2008 at the Bonnie Blue Jacket Nursing Home in Basin, Wyoming from complications of Diabetes.

Merrill was born in Greybull, Wyoming on September 5, 1929, the first child of Ren E. & Rosell (Egan) Yorgason. He was raised in Burlington and worked on the family farm in Otto. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1947. He furthered his education at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho and then at the University of Wyoming. Merrill came back to the family farm where he worked until he was drafted into the Army serving during the Korean conflict. After his service to his country he returned to ranch with his father.

Merrill was married to Maxine Anderson on May 18, 1954 in the Idaho Falls, Idaho LDS Temple. They made their home living in Otto, then Lovell where he managed the Standard Gas Station for 3 years. The family settled in Ten Sleep, Wyoming in 1961 where he ranched until 1976. He then worked in maintenance in the oil field until 1983 then as a detention officer for the Washakie County jail until his retirement in 1992.

He has served on the Ten Sleep School Board the Town Council and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the branch presidency and as the branch president. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, woodworking and spending time with loved ones. He looked forward to his “fights” with the grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, He is survived by wife Maxine of Ten Sleep, sons; David (Judy) Yorgason of Burlington, Steven (Ronda) of Lehi, UT, Phillip of West Valley, UT, daughter; Merrilyn (Joe) Gordon of Sandy, UT, brothers; Jim (Bonnie) of Cody, Glen (Anita) of Idaho Fall, ID, Carl & (Carol) Yorgason of Worland, sisters; Wanda (Clif) Bennion of Meeteetse, WY Arlene (Dwayne) Schultz of Cody, grandchildren Mindy (Eric) Mackay of Powell, Kaden & Colten Yorgason of Lehi, UT.
