Merton C. Bader

March 23, 1911 - October 18, 2008

Merton C. Bader, Jr., 97, of Ten Sleep, passed from this life on October 19, 2008, at the Washakie Medical Center in Worland. Merton was born on March 23, 1911, to Merton C. and Gertrude (Bull) Bader by the Nowood River near Ten Sleep.

Merton grew up on the family ranch on the lower Nowood River and received his education at the Bader School, Ten Sleep School and graduated from Manderson School. He met the love of his life, Pearl Miller, and married her on December 23, 1934. They were happily married for 70 years, until Pearl's

death in 2004. They had one daughter, Myrna Joyce, born March of 1936.

Merton worked for the Holland Brothers with his young family and eventually bought and raised sheep of his own until around 1948. At that time Pearl went back to teaching until her retirement in 1980. Merton worked for the highway department, the Holly Sugar Factory and owned his own trucking business from 1948 to 1961 when he went to work for the Ten Sleep School as a custodian and bus driver. He worked for the school until his retirement in 1978.

Merton has been a member of the Masons, Eastern Stars, Ten Sleep Methodist Church, Elks, Royal Arcs and the Lions Club. He was an active member of the Senior Center and was among the volunteers who helped clean up and haul away the remains of the Ten Sleep Inn where the Center now stands. He

drove the Senior Center bus for numerous years and enjoyed playing pool at the Center.

Merton enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, camping and especially gardening. Many people often stopped by to admire his garden and ask his advice on how to grow such a productive garden. Merton always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, but most of all loved being with his wife Pearl.

He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers and sister.

Merton is survived by his daughter, Myrna Pannell, grandchildren Craig (Heidi) Pannell of Snohomish, Washington, Starla (Wade) Atkinson of Casper, Wyoming, four great grandsons Stephen (Julie) Saint, Zackary Saint of Casper, Wyoming, Joshua and Nicholas Panned of Snohomish, Washington, and five great great, grandchildren.
