Nannette Shuman
July 8, 1963 – May 21, 2025
Nannette Irene Shuman passed away on May 21, 2025, peacefully and surrounded by loving family by her side at home. She fought a hard battle, but is now wrapped in warmth and comfort of our Lord.
Nannette was born into the loving arms of her parents, James and Bonnie (Mower) Ruffing, on July 8, 1963, at the South Big Horn District Hospital, which is now known as the Three Rivers Hospital. Nannette has been a Wyomingite her entire life, and loved being with her family. At the tender age of 3 days old she followed her father to his bronc and bull riding days, making her daddy's little girl her entire life.
Growing up in various parts of the Big Horn Basin, and then her family settling in Hyattville, Nannette met her best friend for life - as she called her "her HEART sister for life", Sheila (Godfrey) Lincoln. The two have a bond that will never be broken. Nannette attended Manderson-Hyattville High School, where she graduated in 1981.
In 1984 Nannette met the love of her life and soulmate, Tommy Gene Shuman while he was tending bar at the old Eagles Lodge. They stayed in touch and later that year became a family. Unto this union they were blessed with Don James Shuman, and Christopher Gene Shuman. Tommy had 3 daughters and a son whom he brought with him to make a family of 8! While the boys were young, she was able to be home with them. When they went to school Nannette began a long and dedicated career at Taco John's. She worked at TJ's for 23 years. They were her second family. She could hear a customer on the speaker and know exactly what they would be ordering, she loved working for Gale and Jurn Wagner until they sold Taco John's. After leaving Taco John's she had the pleasure of working at Maggie's Café, forming a new little family until her health declined and she was forced to retire.
True to Nannette's nature, if you were her friend, you were her family. Nannette's deep love of family was everything to her. From watching her sons both go to college, to taking care of her mom for 2 years when she was ill, never batting an eye to be there day or night. Following Tommy to horseshoe tournaments and watching him win the World Title was one of many highlights they shared, that and becoming a "Amma", since the grandchildren couldn't pronounce Grandma.
Nannette also enjoyed watching her grandsons, Thomas and James participate in sports, programs at school and any events she could attend, until her illness made it too difficult to travel. Watching them gave her joy unmeasured. She also made it a point to try to support her two nephews by attending any of their local events.
Nannette is survived by her father, James Ruffing; brother, Nathan "Bud" (Lisa) Ruffing, all of Worland, sister-of-her-heart, Sheila (Carl) Lincoln of Texas; sons, Don Shuman of Powell, Christopher Shuman of Worland ; children: Deanne (Larry) Landsdown of Tennessee; Shana Shuman-Parker (Larry Turner) of California; Jeremy Shuman and family of California; Brandy Shuman (Donny Hampton) of California, grandsons, Thomas and James Shuman of Powell, niece, Danyelle Lincoln (Ryan Maurer) of Nevada, and nephews, Parker and Hunter Ruffing of Worland, additionally numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren though her extended family, aunts, uncles, cousins and a multitude of family and friends.
