Norma Jean Schulz
May 17, 1932- October 2, 2024
Norma Jean Schulz, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024, in Basin, Wyoming, after a short illness. She was born on May 17, 1932, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Glen Darwin and Cora Luella (Clark) Mittan.
Norma attended Scottsbluff High school. Her journey in life took an unexpected turn when she met her husband, Walter Floyd Schulz, on a blind date. It was truly love at first sight, leading to their marriage on June 28, 1948. They lived in Scottsbluff for 5 years where Charlotte and Carol joined the family. Together, they moved to Worland, Wyoming in 1953, where their son, Gary was born. In 1969, they relocated to Greybull, where they purchased the Coast-to-Coast Hardware store. A devoted member of the Presbyterian church, Norma's faith was the foundation of her life. She expressed her creativity through plastic canvas projects and personalized greeting cards, always finding joy in crafting. Family trips to the mountains and traveling across the country with her mother created cherished memories that she held dear.
Known for her kind spirit, Norma was a gentle presence in the lives of many. She never lost her ability to find joy in everyday moments, often sharing warm hugs and her infectious smile. A true social butterfly, she looked forward to her daily visits to the grocery store, where she would engage with friends and neighbors.
Norma spent the later years of her life at Absaroka Senior Living Center in Cody, Wyoming, where she made many new friends and continued to radiate love and kindness. Her legacy of compassion, generosity, and unwavering love for her family will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Cora; husband, Walter; daughter, Carol (Ray) Averett; brother, Clark Mittan and Melvin Mittan; sister, Wanda Spitzer and grandson Michael Ray. She is survived by her son, Gary (Claire) Schulz of Greybull; daughter, Charlotte (Mickey) Oakes of Kentucky; brother, Ellis Mittan of Nebraska; sister, Anita Closson of Nebraska; 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
