Pearl E. Bader

February 1, 1912 - October 20, 2004

Pearl E. Bader, 92-year old Ten Sleep resident passed away on October 20, 2004 at Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Pearl was born in Shoels, Nebraska on February 1, 1912 to Christian W. H. and Erna Sophia (Jensen) Hansen, who both came from Denmark. Her parents were separated at the time of her birth. Erna brought Pearl and big sister Rosa Ella to the Lower Nowood in 1915. She attended Mann School. In 1920, her mother married Charlie Miller who Pearl referred to as her father from then on. They lived in Dixon Canyon for a short time and then moved to the Tolman Ranch so the children could attend school. The family then moved to Ten Sleep where Pearl received the rest of her education until she was a Junior. Ten Sleep only had three years of high school, so she came to Worland for her Senior year. She graduated from Washakie County High School in 1930 with a normal training certificate. She began working at the Deep Creek School in Washakie County as a teacher. After one year of teaching Pearl attended summer school in Laramie. Pearl married Merton Bader Jr. in 1934 in Red Lodge, Montana. She left the teaching field until 1948 when she started teaching in Ten Sleep. In 1936, their daughter Myrna Joyce was born. During this time she attended summer school and took correspondence courses. She finally received her B.A. degree in education from the U.W. in 1961. This same year the Ten Sleep Senior class (who had once been her first graders) dedicated the class annual to her.

Pearl was a member of the National Education Association, the Wyoming Education Association, Washakie County Education Association and Ten Sleep Classroom Teachers Association. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church and was financial secretary for many years. She was a charter member and past matron of Signal Cliff Chapter No. 49 O.E.S. and was Grand Representative of North Carolina from Wyoming. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and was Wyoming Teacher of the Year in 1966.

Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Rosa Ella and one brother Larry H. Miller.
