Pearl Viola Jensen Reed, 78 year old Worland resident, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at Washakie Medical Center.
Pearl was born the 7th of October 1928 in Cody, Wyoming, the daughter of Einar and Agnes (Nelson) Jensen. She was raised on the South fork of the Shoshone River, (Ishawooa) where she attended all 8 grades in elementary school and had many fond memories of the country girl life style. She then stayed with her grandmother, Augusta Blomquist Nelson, while she attended Cody High School.
She began her working career early working after school in the telephone office. She attended Central Business College in Denver in 1946-47. She worked for Husky Oil Company and Schlumberger, in Cody as well as many entrepreneurial ventures.
While working for Husky Oil, she met her future husband John Henry Reed. They were married November 7, 1948 in Cody. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple on October 12, 1954. They were blessed with four children.
In 1969 the family moved to Worland and purchased the Pawnee Motel. They later owned and operated the Town & Country and Maverick Motels, the Wortham’s Trailer Park, Worland Campground, several ranches and a bookstore.
Pearl was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed serving in many capacities. She enjoyed her grandchildren, her bookstore, playing the piano, working on family history and visiting her many friends. In her later years she enjoyed reading to the residents at the Worland Healthcare Center.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father and her husband John.
Pearl left behind her children: Karen Durfee Lohof of Washington UT, Mary Sue Younger of Salem UT, Berry (Ruth) of Worland, John (Kalani) of Salem UT; her brother Vernon Jensen, and sister Juanita Hill, both of Cody and sister Alice Allen of Redding California; 20 grandchildren and 8 great grand children and a great number of nieces, nephews and fond cousins.
