Peter August Sehlmeyer
September 28, 1947 - July 9, 2021
Peter August Sehlmeyer, 73, of Ten Sleep, WY, passed away July 9, 2021 in Casper, WY.
Pete was born September 28, 1947, in Iowa City, Iowa; the firstborn and only son of Ernst and Jean Sehlmeyer. The family moved to Rochester, New York and then to Northern California; during which time the family grew by three (Claire, Barbie, and Kris).
Pete graduated from Homestead High School, in Cupertino, California in 1965. He proudly served for the USMC and Army.
In 1980, Pete married Phyllis Sehlmeyer and had three children: Nicole, Michael, and Julie. He began his career in teaching in the '90s and was the swimming and water polo coach at San Gorgonio High School in San Bernardino, California. He held a Master of Arts in Education from California State University San Bernardino. In 1997, he moved to Casper, Wyoming and taught at Roosevelt High School and Centennial Junior High.
Pete retired from teaching in 2014 and went on "vacation for the rest of his life" in the home he built for himself and his children in Ten Sleep, WY.
During his life Pete enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, camping, old western movies (John Wayne), American/civil war history, swimming, and surfing.
Pete is survived by his children, Nicole (Jeff) Schoux, Michael (Brittani) Sehlmeyer, and Julie Sehlmeyer; mother, Jean Sehlmeyer; sisters, Claire (Barry) Venn, Barb (Jim) Buyske, Kris (Lynn) Graves; grandchildren, Taylor, Kendall, Colton, Victoria, Turner, Silas, and Gideon, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Ernie "Pop" Sehlmeyer.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marine Toys for Tots, of which Pete was a supporter since 2008.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 pm, Friday, July 30th, 2021 at Ten Sleep Cemetery immediately followed by funeral services at Ten Sleep United Methodist Church with Pastor Kayilu Pfoze officiating. Online condolences may be made at www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com
