Ramona Marie Allred, 83 year old, longtime Worland resident passed away November 20, 2012 at the Washakie Medical Center in Worland.
Ramona was born on October 19, 1929 in Conrad, Montana. When she was 5 years old she moved to Worland with her mother, Mary. She often took care of her baby brother, Randy while their mother was working in the fields. She even let him tag along with her to the movies when she got older. She attended the Durkee School through the 8th grade, transferring to Worland High School where she graduated in 1947.
She married George L. Rubis on January 30, 1949. To this union, three children were born, Deanna, Larry, and Gayle. She worked side by side with George on the farm, whether it meant working livestock, fencing, or running farm equipment. Having grown up during the depression, Ramona was very careful with her resources. Her children remember her often going without things, so that they could enjoy life’s little pleasures. Every year she would put up produce from the garden as well as peaches and pears to feed the family for the coming year. She was a very good cook. Everyone looked forward to Sunday, because there would be a large family dinner with Ramona’s infamous fried chicken.
Shortly after George passed away in 1988, Ramona moved from the farm into town. To fill her time, she would have coffee with ‘the ladies’ every morning. She and her friends also took classes in oil painting and ceramics. She gave up the pitchfork and gloves, for a paintbrush and kiln.
She always loved the color pink. Friends and family knew that if it was pink, Ramona would love it! In the past few years, she looked forward to receiving meals on wheels from the Worland Senior Center, and she was always ready to get her #5 Deluxe Combo from McDonald’s. What meant the most to her was family. She was a very dedicated mother and grandmother. She was especially fond of her relationship with her son-in-law, Tom. Her last days were brightened every time someone from the family would come to visit. She looked forward to her daily visit from her brother, Randy.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Rideout, her husband George Rubis and good family friend, Jack Burns.
Survivors include her children: Deanna (Tom) Allred from Worland, Larry (Vicki) Rubis of Casper, WY, and Gayle (Dan) Malson of Manderson, WY; one brother, Randy (Cindy) Rideout of Worland; grandchildren: Chris (Becky ) Allred of St George, UT, Craig (Sheri) Allred of Billings, MT, Heidi (Bryan) DuPree of Worland, George (Kasey) Freier of Knoxville, TN, Preston and Bruce Malson of Casper, WY, and Clint Malson of Portland, OR; great-grandchildren: Courtney, Trey, Madison, Emilee, Makenzie, McKayla, Eli, Tristan, and Emery; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
